Do Directories Really Work for PageRank?

I had a site way back then and I didn't so any sort of marketing rather just submitting my site to the directories PR7 and up. And I didn't saw any change on the SERPs. What can you tell me about that? What I did wrong? or is just that is complementary to Article and Forum marketing?

Do directories had work for you?

You're wrong. It wouldn't exist otherwise. Read the Google webmaster questions. PR is used in ranking sites in the SERPs, amongst countless other factors.

Submitting to directories will help increase your PR I expect. However you shouldnt really care about the tolbar PR.

Which would you rather have :-

Not rank for any decent term but have PR6

    OR

Rank for a term that sends 1000 targeted hits a day, and have PR3?

    I know which I'd prefer.

Yes directories work for pagerank, although ive read a few times of people doing more or less no promotion and still getting pagerank.

Even you are listed in those directories, it just take little effect to serps maybe for the text anchor.
For PR depend on which page you listed, high page PR big result to affect your site PR.

There area a large culmination of factors that are needed to increase PR. Directory listing is one of many. Being listed in a good, targeted and or niche based directory, along with having a good number of high PR relevant links will certainly help to improve your overall PR.

Yes Mikey PR is one of many factors but not the only one. I believe that keyword targeting helps in getting better SERPs.

It'S all depending on the keywords targated to your sites content. If you submit to the right category then that backlink will be have a right meaning. At the same time if your submit to hundereds of directoris you will get some targatted traffic from there

Submission to a handful of quality directories is just one step in a link development campaign.

Submit to directories that is relevant for your web site (niche directories), but most of all I recommend you to advertise, get traffic and make some money you can reinvest for instance in link building. Good luck :)

Directories are always good for SERPS, that is for sure. But it does not help to gain PR a lot.You will be around pr4, thats all.

what one would do if he has a PR5-6 with no traffic which bring in sales. Link builiding from directories or by any other sources help increase linkpopularity, keyword rankings and traffic. That's my personal opinion and i striclty believe that PR is useless factor.

I have paid for a directory submission service before and this is what happened:
    1)PR dropped
2)Still not found on SERP for main keyword
3)Came out of Google Sandbox and beginning to see traffics coming in from long tail keywords.

Going to combine with article marketing and see what happens next.

Listed in directories may work for a pagerank, but not much.
