but how many directories should we do/month in order not to make them spammy? i have done lots of directories and got penalty
If you got penalized it's probably more a matter of directory selection than number. Spammy we-accept-anything-on-site-without-question link farms are bad neighborhoods. It's one thing to be admitted to a directory that actually evaluates the site, quite another to be added to a host of me-too lists. To tell the difference... look at the descriptions and if you see exclamation marks in descrips or promotional bs like The world's #1 leading site for {whatever}... run away.
I think it depends on quality of directories, relevant categories and unique descriptions of your website. P.S. Spamming linkfarms doesn't help for search engine rankings!
I'm new to this forum and reading this thread it seems to be the general view that a good directory submission will help with rankings? I've just launched the following site www.ibaaz.com, a free classified site. If anyone can give me any pointers as to which directories to submit to I'd be grateful Any comments on ths site would also be well received.
Directories have been a stalwart of search engine marketing since the very beginning of the commercial Internet. Google and other search engine still rely on the directories to signify important websites. It is not obsolete, nor will it be in the foreseeable future. Digg will be extinct before ODP. Why? Because, directories serve a real function of categorizing the Internet. Social things on the Internet are a bit faddish. The Internet is still evolving and will continue to do so. Who remembers the dot bomb?
