Are you certain that your link was actually added to the directory because a lot of the free ones take forever to add your site to the listing, and some of them never do. Some directories are very low quality, where someone creates the site really has no idea how to run it, then gives up shortly thereafter and your link disappears as fast as it was added. I don't see the harm in adding your site to directories if you have time. I just wouldn't count on immediate results. Many of these types have to be the slowest in the world at adding your site.
Anything connecting back to your website will help. Securing good solid links is hard even if you have money to spend. Directories is just the tip of the iceberg.
Are all of you referring to free directories or paid ones? I ask this because tt seems hard to get listed on free directories.
Niche submission works. If your submission is to the right category, if the link page has links, tags, descriptions related to your content your rankings can increase.
Cal - That statement resolves to basic economics. With a pay for review system there's presumably revenue to put someone there specifically to handle submissions. A "free" directory hasn't that luxury... so typically all tasks falls to the owner, who must do everything from site reviews to site maintenance to paying the hosting bills. If it wasn't slower doing it that way it'd be a miracle.
I also want to know the the exact benefit whether submitting url to directories helps in ranking in search engine ?
Make sure you give the directory a thorough viewing before you submit. Same way that you would not want your children going to a school full of rabble, don't place your web site among poor neighbors. If it looks like a bad neighborhood, then move on to the next one.
So true - you actually need about 5000 of these to affect your SERP's - but don't get more than 500/mo. Niche specific directories are the best - I have lots of hits just from these!
I haven't seen much traffic coming from directories but it definitely helps build backlinks to your site. SticKer
there are some directories about back links and some about traffic,... yet some about both (DMoz for example )
NO. It's a combination of things that all collectively help contribute to SERPS. Directory listings are only one part of a bigger combination of things that help your site rank.
sure thing dude that is the only ponly reason people use directories for...High PR directories help u alot in SEO,the days in which directories were used for searching quality sites by people are gone now ,people only use dirs for backlinks,,,,
yeah, you probably need to wait untill google does the next PR check which happens like every 120 days.
Yes it helps as long as you can get back links with this technique. Back link is one of the important factors that helps your site get into top positions.
