Do directories delete links?

It seems some directories delete approved sites from their lists. Especially if it is a free standart submission without reciprocal. Others accept submission then reject sites and offer paid option. Is this common practice?

    Personally, I would. :)

For my free directory, I would delete the sites which do not offer any content. eg. dead and parked sites.

If they paid for the link, I would contact the owner to see what was happened.

Some directory owners approve all links when they are new in the industry and when they get experienced they delete the links that look like spam which is normal.
The second thing is they convert free directories to paid directories so they delete the links which is not normal and not common for an experienced owner. I say experienced owner because there are thousands of directories on the net, some of them are just built for getting adsense clicks. So , what I would recommend is listing your links in common, well known, and promoted directories. But if you don't want to spend money you can take the minimal risk by submitting to the directories which are listed under well known and trusted Directory of Directories.

I would hope it is not common practice, I know with my own directories a majority of the free links that were submitted are still active, the only time that a link is deleted is if it fails the dead-link checking, and even then I wait for at least 72 hours before re-checking the link again to be sure it is a dead link, only at this point will I delete a link.

On Linkspub we delete sites on a daily basis. These are the free Regular Listings which don't even bother to look at our submission guidelines and just want to get their sites in.

    Hi,

Reciprocal submission would get fast review but we do not promise every free submission would get accepted.

Just review your site, we can't accept it as it has gambling banner spot which is not allowed in our submission guide.

Anyway thanks for your submission. :)

<<<<<I submitted my PR4 site to submission4u.com long time ago. and I put reciprocal link in my PR2 page. But site is not still approved>>>>>

many big paid sites like (elid.com, abilogic.com ......) offer free reciprocal links just as a marketing strategy .

They get the benefits of your reciprocal link but they will never approve your listing. So they get 3000/4000 free backlinks and offer in exchange only the illusion at these 3000/4000 sites to be approved, but they never will - Unless they pay.

Are you sure you are following the submission guide?

From my experience most sites have not been accepted do not take a look at our submission guide. We would review 200 or more sites per day, if you do not follow our guide, I think I can't list any of your sites for free.

I am sure most free directory owner would do that. :)

Never submit to directories with reciprocal links.

These are not needed for the common user. Only usefull the owner of the directory. Why should I want to put up a link back from a site I submit to a directory? A directory should be happy I submit a site anyhow.

I can confirm that i would not and never would delete a link that has already been approved in any of my directories, unless something was seriously wrong, like the site listed had gone seriously shady, or of course if the site is dead or something.

The way i look at it is the listings are part of the sites content, the free listings help build a sites content, as a submitter and also directory owner i appreciate it from both sides.

I may be giving a free link to a website but they in return have given me content that builds my directories.

If we're talking about websites that are still on-topic for their category and live, then this does happen, but it's fairly rare. When it does, it's one in the eye for those people who helped to build the directory up in the first place.

So if you find out about a directory which has dumped its free and non-reciprocal submissions, make sure you report it here so we will all know about that owner's ethics and ways of doing business.

We only take free submissions. We delete 404's immediately.. check regularly for them. Other errors may be taken into consideration. We also delete your link if it turns into a parked page or something else noxious.

We have no desire to delete any entry as more enteries equals a better directory, but 404's and other crap are useless for the directory.

No its not a common practice but then a free listing cannot be garunteed, depends on a directory owners motiation

I personally wouldnot delete an approved link whether it is free or paid

I opened good thread:) The cause I did my question is next:
Is it fairly to demand a reciprocal link,to get it, appove the site and then delete one without any notification?
Can i report to DirectoryCritic in such case?
