Nice comments with no linkback to comment senders on your blog is fine. But irrlevant comments with backlinks is worst and approval of such comments are sign of newbie webmaaster.

Disagree. Appropriate comments to your blog add to the discussion will contribute with "fresh content". It also helps to raise new ideas and exchange thoughts with your readers. That is the reason why in my blog all comments are DOFOLLOW. Because I value interesting comments.

You need however to prevent automatic blog comment submission - that is why I use a mechanism such as Discus to prevent automatic blog spamming. There are plenty other means apart from this to prevent automatic spamming. And I ruthlessly trash every comment that is generic and does not provide anything interesting. You want a DO-FOLLOW link? Then make useful comments! (Spammers, beware: It takes me less time to trash your comment than you to generate it ;))

There is no use by spam commenting. Spam commenting are done by some scripts that why we got comments that are not relevant to our contents.

Yes, for sure it will create image of yours in the big G's eyes, for the reason that, there is a big NO for spamming. Approve comments that you think are worthy to keep it on, else, trash is the destination.

secondly, in order to be in a safe belt, ad "no-follow" tag to your blog.

    Regards

I think they do affect your site, you certainly don't want to have a site about electronic gadgets and have it littered with weight loss backlink comments

Comments does effect in a way, if you have a blog and you get comments for your posts, you get to know what are your drawbacks, what you need to improve, what you need to avoid, its like a direct contact with the visitors which does help you improve your contents of your site, which plays very important role in page ranking.
