Lets assume a site whose all ports (except one or two) are closed because of security reasons.

Thus, we are not able to PING the website.

Is this a disadvantage for SEO?

    I appreciate your answers.

But we can see some websites which are on the first page (a well SEO websites) whose ports are closed because of the firewall. They can't be pinged but they are on the first page of Google.

I need a clear and a true explanation to this subject.

there is no chance closed ports have a negative effect on seo

I imagine the ports are only closed on your pc and can be pinged from others? Considering all standard sites come through port 80 (except https sites) then thats the port google will come through, therefore being able to actually view your website then crawl and index it!

Unless you host your own website i dont think its possible to have ports closed on the web server! What is your website? I will attempt to ping it from my machine, either way, aslong as its available on port 80 you will have no problems with seo. The minute the site becomes unviewable to yourself, then you should worry

There is no reason why closed ports would have any affect on search engines crawling your site. On my site just about all ports are closed, and that means going in and out. There are only about 30 - 40 ports on my dedicated server that allow inbound traffic. And my forum ranks very well for my targeted keywords.

As far as I'am concerned, a search engine only needs one port, and that is port 80. Ping is good to have open as well. But ports used by worms, such as port 1234 should be closed to inbound and outbound traffic.

/agree Closing all unused ports should be part of any sites firewall policy.
