What do you think? My son has a dark colored wordpress theme. He said he wanted it to be a dark color, but I think it might be affecting his return traffic. Website A - lots of dark colors Website B - lots of bright colors From your experience, which type of website is going to get the most return traffic?
Haha. He's right of course. People often ask what looks better - a light or dark website design. I think it depends on the niche of the site tbh. Gaming sites, graphic portfolio's, etc can execute the "dark theme" well, while a business site generally doesn't. I often find designing a good looking dark layout harder myself.
Hi, Content is King as everyone says. Without content getting traffic is not easy. Moreover, Sometimes bad designing also affects the traffic. For example, most of the times, i have seen many dark themes with dark links in it. People find it difficult to get the links where they are. Sometimes the designers do it as stylish one. sometimes it is not good idea. A same layout can be looking very different in desktop and laptop. The bottom area on laptop monitors sometimes do not show dark text clearly. So, when designing dark templates test all the links are normal texts are readable in desktop as well as laptops. Thank all of you for the input. My sons website is for a game called Team Fortress. Its built with wordpress has a black background, but the content has a white background, and the columns have a blue cap on the header. Here is a link if anyone is interested - http://www.fortresstraining.com/ To liven things up a little bit, I have gone with a green frame around the embedded youtube videos. You can select the color of the video frame at youtube. Even though the background is black, it seems that a white background on the content helps with the contrast. One forum I joined was about a computer game that people play over the internet, very much like my sons. The text color was brown or blue on top of a black background. This made the website very hard for me to read. So even though there might be tons of good content on the site, if you can not see it, what good is it? Content is not really king, quality content is king, and only then if you can see the content. Even though I joined that other gaming forum, and posted a couple of things, I just stopped visiting. The pages were just too difficult to read. There was a lot of good information there about the game, it was a huge forum that had been around for a long time, but I had a difficult time getting over how bad the text and background blended together. Most of the fan base of that site was teenagers, so maybe they could see the text better then I could.
That's a different topic: accessibility. You asked whether bright colors get more traffic and the answer is generally "no". As I said, the one with the best content.
