My brother owns a golf blog, PR5, good domain, 18 months old with over 400 unique posts. He's earnt around £5,000 in the past 12 months through advertising with large golfing companies. The blog gets around 300-600 visitors a day, and has been featured in 1 national newspaper. He's thinking of selling up because he's soon to be a dad etc. How much do you think he would get for the blog, and would it even sell?
It's difficult to say without even know the URL, but usually you can sell a site for ~ 10 x monthly revenue. Of course some sites will sell for a lot more (depending on site authority, niche, etc.)
Sorry, my brother doesn't want to reveal on the forum, as he would sell it elsewhere. He's just wanting some tips to get a sale price.
Darren, He should talk to a blog network. I talked with B5 media and Creative Weblogging, both of which offered to "acquire" my blog for 2 years, hire people to help write it, do all the tech work and ad work, in exchange for 60% of the revenue. I only had to write a little from time to time, and when the contract is up, I can renew or take it back. It's a nice way to keep the blog but make the work easier, if he likes the monthly revenue from it.
Thanks Rob, that' sounds a perfect option for him, but did they pay to accquire the blog and 60% of revenue? Mind if you PM's me the URL of the blog? I think it's mad Jarodboy, but he needs the money for the new baby, it's an expensive time.
hey great suggestion.. I figured the blog networks would always be in the running to buy blogs, but I didn't know they did this type of licensing deal.. very interesting
Of course he can sell. If he has made $5000 from the blog in the past 1 year, thats proof of income earning potential. It must be an excellent blog to get advertising deals with top golfing companies.
well since he did make over $5k he can sell for over $20k if lucky with the right buyer - but thats some great stats more than i've ever made with all my blogs in a year (i only have 2 working ones now lol) good luck to him
