Just to give some metrics: My site gets about 1600 uniques a day and about 1800 total visits. That places me in about the top 100,000 of all sites on Quantcast, and top 150,000 of all sites on Alexa (without manipulating any figures). I am making enough each day (using Adsense) to pay for a good meal at McDonalds. I was just reading another blog, that was about the top 25000 on Alexa (may be manipulated), and the author has basically given up trying to make money using the blog. The topic of the blog, btw, was how to make money at home by blogging. So making money, by blogging, is extremely difficult, unless you are in a very unique position (e.g. Matt Cutts), who is getting paid very well (in this case by Google), to blog. My advice - don't quit your full-time job just yet. Rich
A good niche + Knowledge + Marketing + hard work + patience + perserverance = a profitable blog. It can be done. As a friend of mine always says 'Act On Your Dream"
Write on topics on which you are comfortable. In due course of time along with sustained labour you can reap the benefits!
Yes you can make money from blogging but you've got to be prepared to put in the hard graft. It doesn't happen over night. I agree with what Webs said earlier in the thread. Have a read of the Blog Profits Blueprint. It's an excellent read and covers the process of making money with a blog. I recently reviewed it on my site and even though I've been actively blogging for a year or so now it was still an eye opener and great motivation.
It depends on the subject matter of your blog, and also how much work you're willing to put in. Although at first it seems that you're working for below minimum wage in terms of how much per hour of work put in, you have to remember it is a long term thing, and that you are building a future income stream. It is no different than a static site, really.
As said before -- blogs do make people millions, the best markets to hit on are technology, political, health/wellness, lawyers, seo/internet marketing, etc.
There are tons of blogs that make money, it's all about luck my friend, some blogs get lucky. There are a million blogs about video games, but for some reason only some make it to the top while other's don't. Persistence, Patience, and a little bit of a luck and you can do it. Don't focus on the money though, focus on the content. and the money will eventually come.
hmans told you the real story about blogging. Follow his advice and you will never be on the wrong side. Forget high paying niches for the time being, just ask yourself what u r good at. Then write a blog about it. Never chase money it should follow you.
I make money from blogging, but it's not as easy as website, because blog are harder to get traffic as much as website.. website little bit easier because you can concentrate on specific keyword..
I'm sorry, Darins, but that is utter rubbish. Why can't you be write posts with specific keywords in a blog? Of course you can. The search engines love blogs because they're updated regularly so they get indexed more regularly. If you're running a static website, the Googlebot comes back after a month, sees nothing has changed and moved on. With a blog, a new comment on a post is "new" so the bot sticks around for longer. How is a blog not a website?
From what I've seen, blogs make excellent ammounts of money. www.johnchow.com is a perfect example of a blog that makes thousands weekly. The minimum offer for a review on his blog is $500 And people pay all the time...anyway have fun with your blog...
I have heard about making good money from paid postings on your blogs with high PR. Can anyone tell me a few good ways to find these paid postings?
If you update your content regularly with some quality posts you will have a large number of returning visitors. They will spread the word and their opinion will decidethe revenue of your site. Besides if the search engine rate you favourably you are in for a bonanza!
It's hard work, period. A lot of people are trying to make money by blogging about blogging. It's not going to work, except for a chosen few. There's nothing to sell except advertising space. However, if you have a blog about tangible products which you can sell, you're more likely to make decent money. For example, it isn't Problogger.net that is Darren's big money maker, it's his digital camera blog.
