Do Blogs help my traffic to my site?

Like everyone else on this board I am looking for traffic for my site. I have read that having a blog will do this but I don't see the benefit of it except for the possibility that having rss feeds made available in an easier way than what it seems to take on a traditional website. Having said that is building a blog doing if it is only built to build traffic to my site?
    2. Doesn't a blog take the same promotional efforts for ranking and people reading it like link popularity?
    3. If my blog is mostly to make money by providing articles and information that leads to product sales just another website.
    4. It took years to get the traffic I have on my site now though building link popularity, article summation with links back to my site and other seo methods . If a blog takes what it took to develop my site how will it benefit my site and why is it worth the time, effort and money such as ppc and so on to promote it unless my thinking is wrong and it can benefit my site?

In a nutshell considering all I have said is a blog going to benefit my site and is it worth the time and effort it will take and is it worth taking away from my time with my site.

I am not lazy and will take the time, effort and money on a blog but want to make sure it is worth is worth it.

Unfortunately, I do not use any standard blogging interface like Wordpress or Movable type
    1.) You can have RSS as an output from any of your sites;
    2.) Yes, but blogs have much more automated ways of how to do that;
    3.) ???
4.) cant say; at least tell me one fo your urls.

Hi. I personally think that additional features like blog, forums, links directory etc support your website and can get more users to your website. Also, they complement each other and hence can get you more users. For example, if you already have a website getting steady traffic, you can use this traffic to convert to registered users on your forum. Similarly, if you have a links directory, it will attract new users and webmasters to your website. People will come and browse around your site, and if they find something interesting, they might join the forums or book mark it and come back again to re - visit your site later on.

I had a look at your site and it is a PR 2 website. Firstly, you should work on improving PR. You might also want to work on changing the design of your site a bit to make it look more professional and user friendly.

IMO, all these blogs, forums, newsletters, ezines, article submissions, link directory help bring more and more visitors to your site. You can be promoting new features and additions of your site on your blog and ask for a link to the main site. Bloggers link back easily and your new blog can help in promoting your website for you.

well, what is blog and what is not?

practically, your site can be considered a blog, even though you do not post daily, you do not use Wordpress and do not categorize your posts/articles based on timestamp.

What you definitely could do, is to start interact with your visitors.
I mean, give them some interface to communicate with you, or another your visitors. With sites dealing with webbusiness it is usually very successful step forth. Anyone wants to make big money online.

You must be "lighter". Those articles you´ve written are quite good but in fact in this industry there are no limits. Check how problogger.net, shoemoney.com, seobook.com, wolf-howl.com ant the others do and combine their approaches.

Your industry is very competitive, you must develop uniqueness to break through. Do not fear confrontation with your visitors. What doesn´t kill you makes your stronger.

You should also be more "trendy" inside your industry of course. Kepp an eye on what´s new and hot. SBI is fine but you are one of millions who promote it.
Sign with others and test it, then write your review.

Each and every day, people are looking for someone who tested this and that affiliate program/tool/method and it can be you who gives them the required information (and you can also earn more money, of course, as a multi-affiliate).

The most visible (and usable) difference between the so called static site and the blog is, that your visitors get used to come regularly to check your new content. Even though they only visit the main page, they develop a sort of dependence. And the dependences are hard to cure...

First of all thanks for all the good ideas but I have a question about PageRank. I did not have any PageRank for a long time then recently on my google PageRank bar I noticed it had gone up. This was about a week ago. The bar for PageRank is crude so it is hard go figure out a real number. Because of this I searched out a place were you could figure out you page rank. One of them is on the bottom of my site. While I would have thought my PR was a 2 the results on my search to get a number had it at 6. Can you explain this and tell me were you can really find accurate page rank for you site

To answer your question that asked if blogging is a good idea.

I have to say that I think it is a great idea and it does not cost you anything to advertise it. Remember that a blog has the pinging feature and over time it will naturally gain visitors through search engines and through blog searches.

blogs a are great way to advertise you site becuase they allow you to easily add content. On your blog you can add links to your site which not only send traffic directly they help you in search engines using the anchor text.

My seo service is based on blogging and my customers are satisfied with the results they receive over time. With blogs, you have to work on the blog every day to get any real results, but those results are very good.

    Thank You,

    George Christodulou

p.s. blogs help you become an expert on your topic which increases conversions on your site, when they go to it through your blog.

Make no mistake about it, blog will become integral part of website (commercial or not) simply because it allows interactivity with the visitors.

If executed properly, it can do wonder bringing in new traffic to your site.

For simple illustration, I have one blog and one article directory site both with zero marketing effort. The blog generates as much traffic after 2 weeks of deployment, as compare to the AD deployed for more than a year.

Blogs have a feature called "Ping" which sends out signals to blog specific search engines and directories indicating content on the blog has changes and visit it for cralwing.

Besides blogs are now-a-days made in such a way that they are easily promoted in social networking portals like technorati.com or Digg.com etc giving it a new dimension for social media optimization (SMO).

I don't have a blog for my site but from what I have observed its very helpful. Especially if your blog is on a more personal level rather than just pure business.

look at this blog I have been reading for months now, you probably know about git already but look anyway http://www.tylercruz.com/ ...

funny but his blog is ranked higher than his actual websites and the blog was not promoted the traditional means but by viral marketing on web forums like this.

    good luck
