Do backlinks still work?

Google is going social... i've noticed Links don't have the same ranking effect as previous - 2009, 2010:

Are links no longer working?

 

They certainly are - you just need to build higher quality links and use lots of variation in platforms, anchor text, surrounding text, etc.

 

Obviously links are very beneficial, try to get theme based and quality back links, these links will give you more boost up to your website...

 

There is no doubt that links are still good for ranking, but the value of links have dropped a certain. High quality backlink is still an important factor for top rankings. BTW, as Google go social, so as to the seoer.

 

Yes, backlink not working as good as previous but it is still working as one of the major factor in seo

Link building is still live but you have to concentrate more offer on higher quality link building like site wide links, sponsored blog posts and similar things, not just running automated spam tools that has become worthless in most cases

 

As far as I know, my backlinking helped me get to the 10 position of google on the name of my business. Some where between backlinks and editing my key words for my business name entered in search I made it up to number three. Thanks.

 

Offcourse back links still work no doubt about it.

Backlinks are like backbone to Google's algorithm. Social links and this medium is kind of experimental ground. I would say backlinks would be there for ever. These new areas are just an addition to their algo.

 

exchange links maybe go, but if you have a new site does not one exchange with you, I mean sites that have some authority and PR
