Do Backlinks In Duplicate Content Still Help Your Page Rank In Google?

I have recently been trying to get backlinks to my website by submitting only one article (that I personally wrote) to article directories.

My goal at this time is not that people find and read the article, or click on the link to my website in the resource box at the end of the article (although that would be nice).

Rather my goal for now in submitting just one article to different article directories is purely for the sake of building backlinks to my website so that several high page ranking (pr) article directories point to my website which in turn is suppose to help my positioning in google (so I read).

These backlinks are in the resource box at the end of the article. And rather than having a raw link to my web address in the resource box I instead have a couple keywords embedded with a link to my main page. Supposedly this will help my ranking in Google for those keywords. But that is another subject.

Now, if I were to submit my one article to, say, 1000 different high pr article directories, search engines like Google would consider it duplicate content and all those duplicates would be filtered into a sub index.

So my question is does Google ignore backlinks in duplicate content? Or do backlinks in duplicate content still help your page rank and website position in Google?

For example can I have the same article circulating in 100,000 different article directories and still be considerd by Google to have 100,000 different backlinks to my website even though the 100,000 same articles are considered duplicate content?

no. Google discount links coming from duplicate content pages - especially if there are 100,000. Discount does not mean that they are valued as 0, but obviously much lesser than if you were to spin the articles.

You'd be wise to make the article unique each time you use it. That way, you get the most benefit from your submissions.

This simply isn't true, otherwise people would simply start submitting the same article to hundreds of directories with links to their competitors.

The links from multiple article directories would be devalued somewhat, but then having them is better than having none.

The problem is hard to avoid. Even if you wrote unique articles and post them to popular article directories it can then be re-published on many other site who pick the article up so even though you've tried to avoid duplicate article you'll still end up with many versions of the same article.

Here is a quich tip for article marketers in this situation... write a new title for each or at least have several titles you can use...rearrange the paragraphs as long as it still makes sense...re-write the first paragraph on several of the articles.

Keep in mind that a single article will NOT perform magic tricks for the search engines or your ranking. Content is King for a reason and the search engines get better at spotting duplicate content everyday. Quality, Unique Content will always win the day.

Good luck with your single article.

ALL links from pages that have PR and are not penalized will help. There is ZERO evidence to suggest otherwise. I have personally submitted articles that are identical to multiple directories and watched my rankings climb. Google may chose to filter these results in the near future but it has worked fine in the past.

The reality is it is extremely difficult to identify the SOURCE of an article with software, so Google must choose which site it will "credit" with the most authority.
