Do backlinks from the same website help PR?

I've noticed my backlinks improving pretty rapidly to a couple of my websites. But primarily it is due to me having them in my signature and posting on a select few forums regularly (such as here on DP). I know this obviously won't hurt my PR, but will it still help it at all? Or does Google much rather prefer that your backlinks are spread out across multiple domains?

I suppose that Google prefers backlinks over a number of domains, rather than just one. Of course, if you are on 3/4 stories on the BBC webpage, then sure it's more beneficial to be there than on around 150 smaller domains.

But I suppose the more domains you get linked to, the better google will think your site is :)

It might help if the links come from differing pages of the same site and the site linking to you is a "trusted" site or has other sites linking to it.

No not all the links from one website are counted. Only one is counted. Google filters out the ones coming from the same website. Hence try to get backlinks from different sites. This is my experience.

yeah the best way is get links for many sites (which are on different IPs as well) so google will think that people are really link to your site not you make a link yourself.

I agree with tradeya, try to get links from many differing sites and differing categories pointing to you as an authority site.

Hello, it all helps. Did you ever see forum spam with tons of backlinks? That's because a back-link anywhere counts and it helps.

The more links which appear on a single page, it lessens the 'link juice' authority from them. For example a page with only 5 links will pass on more individual juice to 5 websites than a page with a 100 links to a 100 websites.

Linking from within the same C class IP range (aka internal linkage) is not as benefical as reciving a link from a site located on a different IP range. But it doesn't hurt.

It all helps buddy! You could write articles on my site http://www.designersplayground.com and use a link to your site as the author. Just no crap as it is moderated.

Well as i heard, recently google considers let's say 100 links from a single domain, as only 1 backlink. i don't know if this information is true, but it was said in DP forums as well. Anyways try to get Quality links, because Quality counts more than quantity. Try to get links from your sites category or at east related to your category.

    Hope this helps you...
    Regards,
    eby
