do articles that come in google alert count?

    Hi folks,
    Do the articles that come in google alert improve the chances for a better site placement by google? say, i submit an article with a link to my site in an article submission site like ezine. and if that article comes in the google alert,are there any possibilities, according to the parameters fixed by google, that my site would get a good ranking?

    Most of the times google alerts shows results from Press release sites, blogs and discussions
