Do any SEO's do Pay Per Rank?

Do any SEOs charge based on results achieved?

Most internet marketing can be bought based on performance like PPCs, so why not SERPs?

For example a customer says, my site is widget.com, and I want to get higher SERP for the term "cool widget".

Couldn't pricing be something like this (specific to how much work is needed for that site and term of course):
    - $x fee when your site appears anywhere in the google rankings
    - $y fee for every page higher your site appears
$z fee when your site gets on the first page results

Why wouldn't an SEO want this type of work if they could know the difficulty in advance, price accordingly, and have the customer sign a contract?

    Just curious,

Most SEO "experts" charge a monthly rate to get you placed well in the rankings.

Thats why you do your homework on these seo "experts" before you use them.

So if an SEO does work for you and gets to the first page on one fine day, you pay a certain sum. After that, he stops work, and your site goes back into oblivion ;)

Getting to the first page is obviously important, but setting up a strong base to maintain it is of equal importance.

People have different ways of charging their clients.

Yes there are SEOs who charge on results, you just have to weigh up what it would be worth for your business to achieve those rankings (ROI - Return on Investment) and then choose the most beneficial pricing structure.

I don't think you will find too many people charging this way... A good SEO contractor will get you to the first page on a handful or two of key phrases regardless of the pay structure. I have done similar types of deals for my clients where I charge a low base (retainer) and then got paid a nice bounty for each month and key phrase that I kept them on page 1.

I have to tell you though most clients don't seem to like this idea and in actuality I made much more with this payment structure than I did on the flat rate jobs I have done.

Exactly, couldn't of said it better myself.

I do things differently than most, i don't have a set rate or package. Actually i cringe every time i see one of those cookie cutter "Mega Deluxe" SEO packages at $x,xxx before they even see the site.

SEOs do have to commit to some kind of result. like top 5 or first page in 6 months or something. without telling the client what they can do for them, how can they get clients? nobody is gonna just keep paying an SEO expert without any result. if an SEO expert is not telling the client about the objective, then it is something to stay away from

I do not think this is a workable solution. SEO requires constant optimization to ensure a site maintains its rank.
For our case, our clients are allocated with a SEO consultant who will perform optimization for their website. Charges are based monthly and is more like outsourcing their SEO burden to us.

Dont let these guy tell you "I dont THINK" blah blah

    They are all Johnny Bananas'!!

There are companys that pay per results. TRUST ME!!!!!

All these people saying NO on this thread are wrong. I know, as I have looked and I am doing it NOW. Not read something!

I hate people who answer threads who have NO CLUE, just because you know how to drive, doesnt mean you know where to get the cheapest tires.

I am not a driver, I BUY TIRES!!!

There should be a rule on forums, if you dont have first hand experience, DONT REPLY!!!

Can it be done?? YES AND IT HAS (6 times by me)

    Just do a search.
