I'm interested in specifically hearing from people living in the United States. Is it possible to make a living building and maintaining content based websites? If so, how long did it take you to reach the point where you were making a full time livable income? How many websites? Just looking for some real information. Thanks.
You can make a great deal of money off advertisements, live-able is tough I think. I've got to the point where I have about a weeks worth of full-time pay from advertisements on one site. Otherwise selling software and things fall in another arena. Web development as a freelancer can pay very well too, its difficult to manage though.
I'm interested, too - could help in this slow season (web designer). Here's another similar post: Do you make a full time income from the internet?.
ignore the moron above, It's possible but its not easy and even with great content and traffic it can be hard. I know some people who make 22,000 a month.. others such as myself who havn't even hit Google's required $100 payout........ It all depends, but no matter what you need content, time, and well money always helps but its not required...
It's achievable though.. I have friends who have an income of $2000/month by blogging and doing affiliate thingy, ut u need to be consistent and post your blog everyday so u can attracted readers and advertisers.
I live in the U.S.. I have been doing online 12+ years. Full time 6-7 years. I do my own productions, as well, I do consulting for others. I also build and demo new sites and sell them off. It is easy to do if you own some original converting content, and know what you are doing.
Is it possible to make a living building and maintaining content based websites? Yes. If so, how long did it take you to reach the point where you were making a full time livable income? It take me 5 years to get the recognition and reputation in the industry to earn full time doing it. How many websites? Currently i manage 5 company website and 2 personal website.
Of course it's possible, why do you think there's people like Joel Comm and Daren Rowse of Problogger? However they didn't get that way overnight, it takes a LOT of hard work and effort being put into internet marketing to make a full-time income from it, but it's worth it in the end for the financial freedom it provides.
it is probably achieveable in the long term, however you need to think about this. It will take about 6 months for your sites to build up and earn you anything at all. Depending on the content and how good your seo is as to how high they are placed in google. Even then if you get traffic there are no guarantees that you will get clickthroughs on the ads. You will need lots of different nich sites. start with say 5 and get good content on them then add more sites at regular intervals (2 or 3 a week) some will earn some wont, that is a fact of life you need to accept, you need to spend time on them all and assess as you progress. Dont expect a fortune, but if you hit the right combination you could do very well.
