I have been building all kindsof links for a site (blogs, comments, articles, wikis, social networks, and forums) but when I do a backlink check on it only two or three of them show up even though it has been months. Are all those links worthless or what? Why wouldnt they show up?

It depends on what backlink checker tool you use. I suggest you to use Yahoo Siteexplorer. You can also use any of these 29 backlink checker. Take note that, some of the backlink checker don't recognize nofollow links. Some, will show nofollow, dofollow, anchored. If you have been doing this for months, you should be able to see some backlinks in your backlink checker report by now.

If you are using Google to check your backlinks, then you will find that they only report a small amount of them. I think its best to concentrate more on your SE position and amount of traffic, rather than quantity of backlinks.

Each dofollow link will be counted as per the formula, sometimes if you type in google link:www.yourdomainname.com you might not get all the links you have because some of the links you submit does nt have the page rank. its always nice to submit your link on pages having atleast 1 PR and also important thing is that you should be patient and do not hurry in building the links.

Thanks for your responses. After using different tools I did find alot more links on the sites I have been promoting. I guess it is all coming together, just very slowly.

try yahoo site explorer that is the most accurate to get a back link count, google only shows a certain number of your backlinks and not all of them.

I think each backlink you build has some value. Backlinkwatch is a good tool to check the amount of backlinks. I also have been using it for a quite a long time now. But these tools does not show the exact amount of backlinks. That does not mean that backlinks which cannot be seen using those tools do not have a value.

Remember to build links to your most valuable links.

If you have articles in article directories and they aren't showing up, build links to your profile page and get them indexed

Focus on content less on links. SEO well written articles will move you up faster than anything you can do.

The links IMO that count the most are the links within a Google Search that get clicked.

    Write, Write, Write...
