I was thinking the almost every directory owner here only accepts paypal. Is this something that is holding us back. Many people still do not have paypal and would like their site listed.

I only accept paypal at my directory, there is a 2co module build in my script but it is buggy and that's why I decided not to use it. The thing is that even by just using paypal I can accept credit card payments through paypal and I receive quite a few of them.

The paypal "Buy Now" buttons don't require a paypal account. People can pay with credit cards without signing up. I think the subscription button does require an account though.

We think the majority of directory owners like us use PayPal

To answer your question yes, you will be providing for more client service options if you have PayPal as it is easy for all users to register for a PayPal account if the country they register from is PayPal approved.

Other payments for non PayPal approved countries can be covered by egold, ClickBank or similar

I accept paypal only... but through paypal credit card is also acceptable..

Managing paypal is easy and for other payment processor one has to modify the script, open account with them and then manage that as well.. this I understand is not smooth and hassle free. Hence paypal seems to be the best option

I only accept paypal. I think it is one of the safest ways to accept payments and the easiest to integrate. You only don't need to pay a setup fee.
2CO requires a setup fee (last time I checked it was $49) plus they have a long list of types of online businesses they don't accept.

Paypal is the best way to ensure successful payments, they take money for each transactions but you're sure that money belongs to you in the end, i never had any problems with paypals, the only bad thing about it is that you've to pay TAXES, when i sell a featured on one of my directories they take 2.50$ > 1.80$ !!! lol :(
