I am curious if some affiliates avoid some programs based upon the price of the product. Are you less likely to promote a product that retails for $999 than one that cost $99, or $9.99 for that matter even if the commission percentage is the same? Is it easier to sell 10 products that cost $99 or one that cost $999 for an affiliate.
It depends on the people you are targetting etc.. but in general most people try to promote things that are very cheap under a 100 because those will have more likley hood of convert especiallly if under 20 bucks most people can part with 20 no problem but as them to part with 100 thats a diffferent story
I think some high-end items can be quite difficult to sell online. I do quite a bit of shopping online, but I'm much more likely to go to a store to purchase something if it's quite costly. From an affiliate standpoint, I definitely sell more lower-priced items than higher-priced.
I understand if it is a product can that can be purchased in a store -- what if the product is internet only and at the lowest price on the net?
Hi Heritage, Well it depends on LOTS of things. Some affiliates PREFER to sell higher priced items. Depends on the affiliate, their site, the market and most of all conversion rates. If its a 5,000 product with 50% commission it sounds great but if no one ever buys online, well then the avg sale and commission % is really a moot point.
Linda, Thanks for the advise. I can see that with the number of affiliates out there, there is no "one size fits all" solution. I just wanted to get some feedback as affiliate marketing is new to our organization.
As it was said, it depends on the product and market. It's easier to sell a $999 product for marketers, than a $99 product for gamers. You have to think case by case...
I think there are a few problems against marketing big ticket items... 1 - Surfers buying big ticket items tend to research more, so there's less of a chance the surfer buys right from your link. 2 - They also tend to only buy from known brands. The surfer might find the product from your affiliate link for Company X, but then go to Amazon by typing in their domain, and just buy the product there since Amazon is a trusted name. 3 - Bigger sales will give bigger commissions... but will be generated less often. I presume many affiliates are turned off by the idea of doing lots of work and rarely seeing a sale. There's more risk for affiliates who spend to generate traffic. ...on the plus side, there's probably less affiliate competition on big ticket items.
It depends, e.g. we offer range from 50 to near 400$ per product and all it takes is to get a bit more targeted traffic and write better reviews.
