Do Affiliate Links Still Count as Backlinks

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by acuman, Jun 29, 2007.

If I have an affiliate program and people link to me with it, is that still a positive backlink or does it lose its backlink effect due to the "filters" going through the affiliate URL?

    Thanks!

if those link without nofollow and the page is indexed by search engines, it will be counted as backlinks

In simple words, yes! However the effect they will have will be some what limited, since the affiliate links usually contain affiliate ids at the end, which means it might not have any effects on the PR of a website or a particular page.

use a sub domain or a domain name and then redirect it to your affiliate link. A lot of marketers will copy the sales page put it on their site, get it crawled and link to the main page or redirect it.

They do count as long as they are done right.

What is the format of the link at the moment? Can you give an example?

One idea on getting affiliate links to be actually backlinks, use the affiliates website url as the affiliate id, so the referrer is counted. The downside to this is the link can only be used on a site owned with that url. If the user wants to put that link in their forum sig or on a newsletter then there is no valule given to the affiliate. In those cases, the affiliate could use a regular affilate link, with their aff=123 appended to the url.

I have not seen any programs as of yet that does this - but the idea could drum up a lot of links for the site offering the affiliate program
