Hi All I have been trawling through the last 12 months stats of my site on Google Analytics and noticed that during a period from in May and June when my adwords were off there was a definate drop in my daily non-paid natural click throughs. Now the ads are back on things are picking up again in with the non-paids. Now call me a cynic but there seems to be a pattern here. There are no other seasonal aspects to my business that would cause this. Did not being on adwords have an affect on my natural results. These stats would seem to say so! Any thoughts? I have done a few searches but found nothing?
I don't think google will do this cause it will damage their trustability , but I have heard rumors , too.
This is nothing more then an SEO myth. Having adsense and adwords on your site will not increase your SERP's. If Google did in fact hold higher rank for having there ads on your site, it would bring a lot of heat to them and hurt there rep. I understand they are the search engine giant, however this has been talked about and tested in the past by many to be false.
I don't think that either if they make such a punishment, people will be afraid/scared to use google adwords and it will be a advertisement for them.
I want to offer a counter opinion here. Part of the parameters of a site's importance to google is the traffic to this site. As adwords is a good traffic source, I think it has an impact on a site's rank in google
ohadgliksman thanks for the counter opinion but I don't agree with you cause google can not know our traffic (not everyone using analytics) , the only valid data google has is the searcher's choice percentages between the serps (for example when you search a "keyword" people may be clicking more on the second ranking site). We are not sure if they are using this on the algoritm (they are possibly using it) but I don't think they would consider the adwords clicks cause it is not stable you can cut the campaign any time etc. My opinion is that adwords-adsense and google organic results are totally parted otherwise this could effect the trust on Google.
Some interesting comments. I decided to look into this in more detail. I exported the data and produced the graph below. I know it proves nothing really (and I should get out more) but there does seem to be some link at least in my case. Any further thoughts?
Most of us are using one version or another of the google search toolbar in our browsers. Reading through their T&Cs will show you that you agree to them collecting anonymous data on your surfing history. So any traffic source to your site, be it adwords or plain voodoo, will benefit your site from an SEO point of view
