was curious because it shows a dollar amount for the eCPM and if u click the ? link next to it it says Effective CPM - Cost per 1000 impressions. From a publisher's perspective, CPM is a useful way to compare revenue across different channels and advertising programs. It is calculated by dividing total earnings by the number of impressions in thousands. For example, if a publisher earned $180 from 45,000 impressions, the CPM would equal $180/45, or $4.00. but it doesn't say if you get paid that amount. it don't seem so but the way the above text makes me believe in some way that you do. i think as an adwords user it charges u by ppc and ecpm.
errr, how about this situation (i've experienced this at the start of adsense day): some traffic NO clicks .10 ECPM does that mean that if I have 1000 impressions, I'd get 10 cents?
Lol!, thats weird. I think Google is using statistics to calculate the chance that your ads are being clicked with some traffic, and then calculates the income that you should have . Unfortunately you're not getting the eCPM paid, if that where so, it would be very rich right now
so why even show us the ecpm? i know its used for adwords. not sure if you pay cpm on normal ppc ads or if it's only per 1000 impressions on specific sites you want to post in
It gives you an indication of what you are gonna earn if people keep clicking the ads at the same rate, and your traffic stays the same. They use it to give us an indication how well our sites are doing. On the other hand it's a usefull tool for Google, because when it's going up real quick, there must be something happening. Then can then check your site if you're not violating their TOS. On the other hand, they could show it to us, to motivate us. How better the sites are that we build, the more clicks we get, and the more money Google earns.
wow that does make sense i never noticed that. google should just say that i would have never figured that out unless i happen to see it w/ a glance.
I don't think many people know, but Adsense pays per impression and per click. You earn CPC and CPM. If anyone tells you different then they are wrong. My facts are 100% accurate. Not all publishers get paid on a CPM basis though. The publishers that get paid on a CPC and CPM basis are the only ones where the advertisers actually select to advertise directly on their sites. I am earning on a CPC and CPM basis. Some people may think the CPM thing is a good idea, but I don't think so, this is because I am earning less from the CPM ads on general than what I am earning from the CPC ads. Also, if you notice any of them really huge ads on your site or any other site then these are the CPM ads and not the CPC ads.
well i didn't know this either till yesterday i read a post by moto explaining how to see if you're being site targeted (cpm) or just normal ads. (cpc). you click advanced reports. then where it has the dropdown box of show data by[?] you click individual ad unit. then check the box that appears [?] Show data by targeting type - contextual or site. and it will show you how many impressions and ctr etc of ads and site targeted. i have a few on my site but i only get a few hundred people a day. if i got more by the thousands cpm would be great.
I would also earn a good amount per CPM, but in general if I didn't have CPM I would earn much more money.
