Do Ad Network Links Count?

    Heya!

I am trying to get document research stating the incoming links from ad networks do not contribute to overall search relevance for keywords.

We have a client who feels OpenX or other ad networks do so I wanted to give rock solid proof. They are clearly purchased links, but I wanted to see if anyone had a good link for me to cite.

    Thanks!

Are they javascript? If so, they aren't being read by googlebots

No actually - OpenX has basic link redirects like adbrite.

Oh for heavens sakes, grow up.
Adwords are javascript - google doesn't read them and count them as links. I am up to date, I work for a large agency, I'm in the google offices getting their latest updates nearly every month.

Most ad network links go through a page on their site so that they can count the click and then they redirect to the target site. In most cases the redirect is a 302, not a 301 so that it doesn't pass credit and link juice. And often times the ad networks will block the page that counts the click and redirects to the target site using robots.txt which again would not pass credit and link juice.

Rightmedia Ad Network use javascript in their ads so it will not help in optimization. There is some ad network that use plain html as their script and this is for sure crawlable. Major or big Ad network need to use javascript to track down their impression and click so there is no possible way they will use plain html
