Do 1and1 domain registrations usually take 24-48 hours?

I attempted to register a couple of domains with 1and1 but nothing seemed to happen, no email nothing and the domains are still available thru other registrars. So I emailed them and they say it will be processed within 24-48 hours!!!

Never heard of such slowness... is that normal for 1and1?

1&1 sucks. You'd be better going after the domains with Godaddy or another large registrar that isn't 1&1.

its usually slowest processing registrar and the slowness may be due to CC check etc

but they are the horrible registrar. best is to register that domain right now with another registrar like name.com , GD or namecheap.

Good advice. Get in quick before 1&1 reg it for you and you get sucked into the blackhole that is 1&1.

Ehh, I've used them for 5 years with no problems. I hear horror stories often and consider switching but they have a convenient system and buying a domain is actually really quick+easy. Sometimes I've had a site up and running within 15 hours of buying it, and that's 1&1 (but pointed to a different host).

Sorry, but that's pretty rubbish. I can have a site up and running in about 15 minutes after buying it. :/

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of registering 2 domains with 1and1 during their $4.99 promotion which was really stupid. I've read all the horror stories (and I'm even locked into a 1-year hosting contract with them --- when their hosting and its features are 2nd class)...but I digress.

Anyways, it has been well over 24 hours and my domain is still not 'ready'. What I mean by that is that it is still marked as "pending" so I cannot make any changes to the DNS. I really advise you to stay away from 1and1 and go with someone like Netfirms who will have you up and running in no time!

I really shouldn't have taken the cheap route...
