You just need to ensure that you have DNS server running on the VPS and you point your domain's nameservers to the VPS. :)

That's just so simple unless you do not have any control panel on the VPS and that's another story

You actually doesn't need to have DNS server running on VPS, just contact your VPS support you need to use their name server for your domain, and they will point your domain to VPS IP address.
Other method was called 'glue' method, first you need to create name server by yourself (most registrar provide this), point the name server to your VPS IP address, and use this newly created nameserver for your domain.

To host a DNS server on VPS which used only for one or two domain was to much burdening your system

do you have your domains with godaddy? if so do the following to create your name servers.

    1. login to your account
    2. login to your vps.
    3. request for your ip address. when they come up write them down you will need them later.
    4. go to my domains.
    5. click on the domain name
    6. In the bottom left corner of the screen you will see a View/Modify Detail link it's in the host summery section.
    7. on this page you create your name servers.
    8. enter your first name server. you need to create at least two of these in the first host field enter a name it can be anything i use "ns1" then enter your first ip address in the field to the right. for the second host add another name "ns2" followed by your second ip address. then click okay.

in a few mins you should get an email from godaddy saying if the name servers successfully registered, you need to make sure that you enable name server hosting in your vps.

You need to create nameservers for use on your VPS.
