I have changed my nameservers on one domain name to point to one of my servers and it has been 4 days now and still not working. When i look up the dns settings it shows its pointing to the right nameservers but when i try to open my site it still points to the old one. Any reason for this?
Do you get the old IP when you ping it? Are you behind a router - if so restart that. If you have a Linux box you could use dig ( I know I have this on linux - there probably is windows equivalent ) to check what the TTL's are at.
When i ping it shows the right ip where it supposed to go. The website is on a dedicated server. I am behind a router at home but does that have anything to do with it?
Can you call your ISP and tell them to clear your old dns cache? It should help you if your dns pointings are ok. Although, can you please give me the following informations: 1. Domain, 2. Old IP & New IP
I have seen routers cache DNS info- and restarting the router fixed it. Also if you have a windows box you might try ipconfig /flushdns
