DNS Set Up Help

Hello,

I have just bought a dedicated server from Nexcess, however I have never owned a dedicated server before and need help setting it up. Nexcess have said they will help me transfer my wordpress blog over from Hostgator, however I need to create my own nameservers and setup DNS on the server itself.

If anyone can help me do this I would be grateful.

Are you running any control panel such as cPanel or Plesk? why do you need to run DNS on your server? just have your domain name to point to your server IP.

 

I have cPanel.

So all I need to do is change the name servers at my domain registrar? Then transfer my Wordpress blog to Nexcess from Hostgator?

 

You need to create or update your name servers to the one on the server, then point your domain to your name servers and it should be fine, you also need to backup and restore your site on cPanel, IIRC they use cPanel as well.

If you want someone to help you set up name servers give me a shout. I will do it for you. I own bank of dedicated servers in London and Asia and all of them run there own DNS name servers. Let me know.
