If we stopped submitting tomorrow, they would be happy. They wouldn't have to bullshit anyone anymore. They'd be able to do as they please. If they spent as much time editing as they do taking each others backs to put someone down that has called them out on their bullshit, they'd be doing good and the directory 3 times the size it is. When someone is questioned and they turn to insults, and the entire staff helps, that is enough evidence to me that they are not legit. They have no class, they are not articulate and they are not clever. I'll probably never get listed, but really, I want nothing to do with AOL. What a sad story of a company. Yeah they make money, but the bum on the corner panhandling does too.
AOL does not care ... they just let it ride. But Google seems to care since it is their results that suffer and they won't be having it much longer.
Google will never drop them ST, they would have to drop their own directory then, keep dreaming about that day buddy
I really don't care anymore, Anthony. But I truly believe that changes need to be made in order to have better search results out there.
Sitetutor is exactly right. It's your answer to all questions looking for logical reasons for allowing resources to waste away, etc. Look up corruption and hubris and you will find all you need to know. Everyone should know monolithic corporations are not immune to this. It's just that the grander the object afflicted makes it ever more fascinating and stupefying, as always will be.
LMAO @ "rat-faced gnomes"! The problem with many of those self-serving in-crowders, errr... I mean "volunteer editors", errr... I mean "rat-face gnomes" is that they apparnetly can't see how every time they step up to tell us how well things are going at DMOZ (and how anyone who complains is just a whiner who can't get his sites listed) they confirm the very criticisms they are trying to deflect. It's become almost a comedy club (CCMOZ)...
geesh my thread is turning into a war zone and I am not even in it http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35315&page=2&pp=15
Alright Minstrel, everyone knows that you are not happy with DMOZ. But what is the solution to current problems Minstrel you know that this database is not going away and is a source for many searches and affects all of the webmasters worldwide and exposure for their sites.
Q: How do you clean out a nest of "rat-faced gnomes"? A: rat-faced-gnome poison or industrial strength antiobiotics
Every thread I start at resource zone just seems to turn into shit by default, kinda like Anthony's threads on digitalpoint
TOOT that always happens when you enter them for some odd reason Sort of like "Anthony's worst nightmare = ST
I would even favor firing all the editors and replacing them with tree stumps... no wait... would anyone notice a difference?
What bothers me the most is when someone is asking a question, the editors are talking to each others with long posts full of their little insider jokes. I couldn't even read thru Hutchenson and the other guys' posts. JimNoble is always helpful and OneEye ... well the guy whose post was just edited was complaining about him referring to misinformed submitters as idiots. I am to the point where I just throw my hands in the air and say geesh, can somebody please do something
OK, now that we all have our bashing in, does anyone have any suggestions for AOL on how they can make this a valuable asset to the community again
We are doing it, Anthony, we are talking about what is wrong over there. I have on my real estate forum shown an article from seochat and referred to it as well written and informative. Well .. I guess the information was wrong. About well written: I meant it was straight to the point. The answers, wrong or not were right there. this is from my forum and this is their response.
All that is great ST, but what we want are original opinions by the members here, I don't care what the editors at DMOZ think, I care more for what the members here have to say on improving this very important database that affects all of us in this business.
It's truly amazing to me that anyone would consider for a nanosecond that "we" could somehow affect a change at AOL. Or, within a nest of might I add fat, rat-faced gnomes who want nothing to do with reality. (Minstrel, my keyboard is possesed! hehe) And I wonder why anyone... even cares? Let the laws of business and nature (they are not that different over time) run their course, there is no choice here, it is wasted time. You are barking up the wrong tree. And I'm moving on myself.
