Not advisable. That may get you blacklisted.

You wouldn't be the first to do so.

That means many people are doing this
Is DMOZ not aware about it
If its so then there would be no value of DMOZ other than getting your site listed for PR.

Yes, just wait and try to become a "senior" editor and then not only you can list your own sites but start selling DMOZ listings to others and call it "SEO" project. ;)

There is no value to a DMOZ listing other than getting your site listed for PR - and even the value of that is extremely limited.

you get more than just PR. since the dmoz data is public, it's widely distributed. one link on dmoz = hundreds, if not thousands, of links from dmoz-driven sites. google's directory included.

I think you'll find that that is no longer true, disgust. Google has been working hard over the past year or so on their duplicate content filters. There's no evidence that a DMOZ listing now gives you any more than one backlink... and not a very powerful backlink at that.

Most editors skim the titles and pick out the 'proper onces' and check them out first. Then work their way backwoards from there. If your title is in anyway wrong, chances are that the editor might never get to you!

    exactly what I do !

    submitters take note ;-)

the fact that they occasionally use DMOZ titles and snippets is testament to the fact that google still values DMOZ's data. at the very least, a link from DMOZ and a link in the google directory is worth something. and yes, "pure clones" that offer nothing new or unique are often cut from the results (just like with datafeed sites or sites using wikipedia data) but some do add unique content / features... those sites are still in the serps.

on a trusted domain, I've found getting listed on dmoz alone has been enough for me to rank in the top 10 for relatively competitive terms.

No. That's not even evidence that they use those snippets or titles in ranking sites.

It is worth something. It is worth one backlink. I don't know of any evidence that would suggest that Google counts it's own DMOZ clone as an extra backlink.

Whether those sites are "in the serps" or not is irrelevant to whether links from those sites adds anything of value to your Google ranking.

    "alone"? I highly doubt that.
