My understanding is they they have no requirement to list any submitted site. Apart from that it could take weeks, months, or years to be reviewed.

I've also heard that you should submit only once as each submission puts you back to the bottom of the list.

Well, I think you don't have to twice or many DMOZ is very strict when it comes to submissions.

Submit the site with new domain, if you can effort it. And mind well make it once.

Pluto - if you have submitted your site more then one time - just forget them and move on. It's like you have a big X on you after you request more then once.
I have known people to submit and it has taken 1 full year to get listed, but you never put in more then 1 request.... sorry :(

How do you know they refused it? did you get an email saying this?
if so, I'm sure they linked to the reason it was rejected ;)

I have had a dmoz editor say to submit a site again after waiting at least three months. You mean to tell me that if I followed the advice of the dmoz editor, I am never going to see my site in dmoz? Harsh! :)

Submit now, and wait for your son's kids to tell you if you finally get listed or not. If not, few other generations would have to pass probably.

Sigh. This myth keeps popping up despite the many many explanations debunking it, even within the last few days on this very forum.

To repeat: sites are not banned after two or three or any set number of suggestions, but multiple suggestions do cause problems:
    1. they are completely unnecessary
    2. they waste everyone's time, especially those of volunteers who could be finding and adding other sites
    3. later suggestions overwrite earlier ones
    4. they have absolutely no influence on if or when a site is listed, because hundreds of thousands of sites are listed without being suggested at all
    5. excessive suggestions might be seen as spamming, and we hate spammers the same as you do.

I doubt you will get banned for sending more than one submission. But it is not a good idea, our guidelines clearly say "submit once". It will not be lost, it is either waiting a review or has been rejected. And, sorry, before you ask, we do not inform people if a site is rejected. But it will only be rejected because it does not comply with guidelines. How long do you have to wait if it is accepted, how long is a piece of string? Do something else to promote your site, there is nothing more you can do at DMOZ, short of becoming an editor yourself.

And before anyone else comments, if you think that your site is not being listed for any other reason than that it does not comply, please fill up an abuse form and your complaint will be investigated. I doubt many if any editors abuse their position, but if you think they do complain, I can assure you any allegation is taken seriously, but most found to be unfounded.

But note too, that we do not undertake to list any site, we do not undertake to review sites in any time period and we are not a listing service. Editors are encouraged to obtain sites from any source, one of which may be sites which have been submitted.

    edit to add
makrhod can type faster than me!!!!

Certainly, if the site has specific reference to a town or city (for example, if it represents a business, service, sports club, accommodation, restaurant etc located in that town), please suggest it to the category for that Locality under http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/

Of course this will not mean a faster review, or a more likely listing, but suggesting such sites will definitely help volunteers to find and add relevant sites and hence build a more useful local resource. :)

As explained many times, the criteria for listing are available for everyone to read, and we did not join DMOZ so that we could explain to webmasters what they can read for themselves.

Our time is far better spent finding good sites and building and improving the directory in all sorts of other ways. :)

There is no problem about submitting to BOTH a topical category AND a regional one, provided that you follow the guidelines and provided that your site has the regional focus makrhod talks about. In fact we positively ENCOURAGE submissions in that way.

Maybe one day DMOZ will use tags and we can all save time with double listing in this way:eek:

But I bet on my own I could beat you in the three legged race makrhod:D

You see. Make you site for people, not for Search Engines, write a unique content, unique design. Talk with editor, be attentiva in writing description and you site will be published on dmoz! Good luck!

That's just about spot on, but as editors many of us prefer not to enter into a dialogue, we joined to edit, and too many times we get abuse from webmasters in dialogues.
