This may may not be the most appropriate place to post but I'm new here so bear with me.

I have been playing with SEO for a couple of years now since I learned html and started making websites.

Just recently (Dec 2004) I really started working on my SEO skills and I was wondering about the best way to get listed in the open directory. I've noticed many pages listed in other search engines also listed in the DMOZ directory and it would seem to me that being in the directory can improve listings in other search engines considering the number of pages that google yahoo etc. index that use DMOZ results.

I have tried with several websites and several attemts to submit to no avail

PM me one of your websites that you are trying a dmoz listing for. And I will be able to better comment on this.

resource-zone.com is a fine place. Just read the "directions" before posting.

Thank you! I am NOT the only one and it's not me. I hate resource zone even though I like JimNoble and oneeye...they are cool. JimNoble is like this funny old dude who been there done that. The rest is lame. Is Friday night and I had some to drink, thas why I am not very diplomatic right now ;)

    DMOZ is a joke.

nitemare5liter, the reality is that submitting to DMOZ is a frustrating process.

    1. They may add your site at some point, with the delay ranging anywhere from a couple of days to several months or years, the latter being more common than the former.
    2. They may never add your site.
    3. When your site is added, you are not notified.
    4. When your site is rejected, you are not notified. No reasons will be given for the rejection. If you inquire at the resource Zone as to why you were rejected, you will be mocked, taunted, vilified, and/or stonewalled.
    5. If you inquire at the RZ and it has not yet been added or rejected, you will be told (a) nothing or (b) that it has not been added or rejected and don't ask again for 6 months.

And Anthony, I like it better before you appointed yourself hall monitor.

Minstrel the question is should one continue to fight for a listing in this directory and what is the best way to get listed.

We all by now understand the associated problems with submitting to DMOZ and the communication problems they have with webmasters.

Should one continue to seek a listing or just give up like many of us have

I thought I had answered that:

Give up. It is pointless and fruitless to pursue it. Submit to directories that will actually give a damn and that will respond to you.

If they were getting tired of DMOZ we would not have a franchise of threads going here on the issue ST, there seems to be a hell of a lot of interest

You're probably right. But they're wasting their time. And collectively, that is thousands, maybe millions of wasted man-hours.

I wasn't intentionally laughing your ass off, Anthony. Actually, I have little or no interest in your ass, on or off.
