DMOZ update listing feature

I had a site listed inside DMOZ.

It had to be one of my competitors that updated my DMOZ listing.

My dmoz listing just changed on me...my sites name, desription and everything.

It seems that someone used the update listing feature and did this. I tried contacting DMOZ, but they said It was already approved by an editor to change the listing description.

Can't anyone just do this? What do they actually do to prevent this? I'm a bit upset, but I still have 2 sites listed in DMOZ, so I guess I'll be happy with that.

I wouldn't worry about it personally. The title and description probably reflect your co. or site name and description of what the site is about as opposed to your preferred anchor text and promotional description.

If it's not to your liking, utilize the meta "noodp" tag so it's not displayed in the search engine results and your title and meta description are used. ;)

    thanks for the tip.

I'm not too worried...its my site but one I built for my client. It generates no revenue so being in DMOZ or not is not to biggy. But I was just wondering about the whoe update process ..if someone was able to change my site address and description with ease...then it might be as easy for everyone else's site too.

Only a dmoz editor can update your listing, but anyone can submit the update url form. Submitting an update request does not guarantee that the listing will be updated as requested. If the listing conforms to the guidelines, the update request will likely just be deleted. Nothing sinister about it.

Did you read their guidelines on Titles? This will probably explain why they did not accept the title you requested in your update.

In the end it all comes down to what the individual editor believes is the most fitting title for your site. But the guidelines may help you understand why your title change was not accepted.

Wow, interesting first time i seen anyone whose site is already listed complaining about title and description change, there are like thousands out there whose sites are not even approved.

    Interesting....
