DMOZ the most important Link?

Discussion in 'ODP / DMOZ' started by batman4444, Aug 2, 2007.

Ive read around on several SEO websites that the DMOZ directory is one of the most important places to get your listing because so many other sites and engines rely on the DMOZ to get their listings,
And im wondering if this is the experiance of other DP members.

DMOZ = Sucks google doesn't like them anymore because most of their listings are spam and they take for ever to accept links they have 1000s backed up from months ago.

batman - word of advice = don't believe everything you read with regards to dmoz being the greatest this or that.

Just scroll through the forums and you will quickly see/read what you need to know and soon find your answer(s). It's pretty obvious what the consensus will be only after having read just a few posts.

Tom is correct, it's not what it used to be. The majority of the "SEO experts" that say you still need to be listed are one of two things. A DMOZ editor or someone that just needs one more point to make a '20 tips' list.

There are two rules to follow, well, one rule to follow, but you get to pick from two:

    1. Submit & forget
    2. Forget 2 submit

After dmoz listed, many things changed on SE especially on google. But there are some spams. I agree with SFTech.

You forget that for many years that ODP editors have been actively discouraging ODP submission as a form of SEO. Most of the crap that ODP editors have put up with is directly related to the concept that an ODP listing is somehow vital to a sites SEO. The propagation of this idea is webmaster driven rather than ODP driven.

Blame Canada! No wait, blame Google and other SE. ;)

When you see DMOZ description in SE no wonder DMOZ found itself in middle of SEO wars and in there is no mercy or taking prisoners... :D

DMOZ listing is no magic bullet for getting good rankings. It's just another good link.

I doubt it is a important link anymore, today you are most likely not to be approved on 'famous categories', you'll have to find a very deap subcategory to increase your chance of getting approved, and those subcategories have small traffic, and usually low PR. I think you would be better off with a PR5 textlink :)

DMOZ is not as good as before,DMOZ is going down, it becomes very hard to submit & proved for your site there.I would rather spend more time with other links:D.Just personal opinion.

I hadn't noticed that it's any more difficult to submit a site. The form is pretty much the same as before except for the captcha.

It's still good to get links from DMOZ, no doubt about it. If some of those selfish editors were kicked out and/or they started submitting better sites, the whole directory would get way more respect from search engines.
