What I am worried is that as soon as it is calm and quite enough, these sites will resurface under new category name and little touch up on descriptions. The question is what? What the hell are they waiting for? People calm down and forget about chat rooms, so they can dust off the free speech BS again and have excuse to keep the "AFFIRMATIVE VIEW" sites? What kind of despicable people come up with all the excuses to help child molesters to continue with what they are doing?
I sincerely hope that none of those editors believe this is anything but a first step. And that none of them believe that any of us are just going to forget about this.
It would not be against the current guidelines to "unreview" the sites and/or categories in question until a decision is reached.
In the mean time, while DMOZ "Admins" are deciding if pedophilia is bad or good, pedophiles should not be worried that DMOZ have removed an important resource in their quest for molesting children by moving the listing of pedophile networking site in "chat and forum" category to test. All the "poor and misunderstood" pedophiles need to do is to look at this category to find the same resources : http://dmoz.org/Adult/Society/Sexua...ces/Pedophilia/Affirmative_Views/Directories/ DMOZ social contract states "We will be highly selective and judicious about sites we add,", so let's look at the description of these highly "selective" sites. BoyLinks - Listing of boy-related and boylove websites and IRC channels. What is IRC? IRC, channels are where people meet and chat. You may know them as "chat rooms". Free Spirits - Resources for boy lovers Resources: The same forums that were in "Chat and forum" category. Girl Love Garden - Resources for girl lovers. Site includes links to other sites dealing with the topic of pedophilia, member websites, online forum. "Poor and misunderstood" child molesters have nothing to worry about, DMOZ is still their one stop shopping resource for all their "needs".
That's very bad! Good find gworld. I've been so busy worring about getting rid of chats_and_forums that I haven't had time to look for other equally offensive categories. I'll bring this up internally right away, hopefully it will be moved to test quickly. Any others that you're aware of?
Opps, I got mad before checking facts. Seems that category has been moved to test as well, most likely for the same reasons that Chats_and_Forums was moved.
Why do I get the impression that if people like gworld don't "out" a listing it will remain where it is?
It seems it is still there but may be it suppose to be moved to test. CReed has a good suggestion about "unreview" the sites, so it can not simply moved to a new category and an editor has to take responsibility for approving it.
Odd, I see it already in Test and not in the public directory. I called a family member and had them check thinking that maybe my computer remembered me and logged me in, but they didn't see the cat in regular Adult/ and got a login screen for the Test/ category. If the sites are moved from the test category to a new category, it will be logged.
Editors are people like gworld too. So it's more than an impression, it's a fact, as long as you consider us all people.
I was including you and brizzie and a few other editors and ex-editors under the umbrella of "people like gworld", Annie. What I meant was I'm sure that if any of these little creepy-crawly sites manages to remain hidden under a slimy rock somewhere in DMOZ, the editors who put them there will be more than happy to keep them there.
You can 'unreview" a single site. It basically leaves it in the category, but not "listed" or public. It will not show up in the rdf dump. We moved the entire chat's/forums category to test - meaning that not only the sites disappeared, but the whole category. The difference is minimal as far as non-editors are concerned. We all have the URLs now. A periodic dmoz search is all it takes to make sure the sites are not listed.
Well, I can't disagree with you there. This whole thread has taught me that we all need to be more vigilant to make sure we weed these out and keep them out. No more relying on blind faith in others to do the right thing.
