I'm sure that some of the people posting here are biased against the ODP because of something that happened in the past - removed or rejected as an editor, sites not listed, whatever... Who cares? Sites designed to be gathering places for pedophiles to discuss pedophilia (and god knows what else) should not be listed in the ODP. I don't care what the motivation of gworld, portprophesy, anthonycea, minstrel, or any of the other people posting here, is. I agree with them on this issue. I'm not going to take the wrong stance on something just so that I can disagree with them...that's just silly.
I don't have any porn sites, it does not matter if Gworld is Larry Flint, he still has a right to question why editors sites have many listings and why he can't get in..... I think at this point AOL should just dump the adult section to cut their losses as Bradley mentioned in this thread, he is making some sense indeed.
Deobfuscator, You are a complete ass. Obviously, if gworld wanted everyone here to know every site he is involved with, he would have listed these himself. You could have also PMed to discuss these sites, instead of putting his business out here for all the world to see. You are a disgrace, and I'm sure your fellow DMOZ editors are ashamed to claim you as one of their own.
Obfuscator, tell me this: What does any of that have to do with the issue of what is happening in DMOZ Adult? We know there is porn on the net. Why is DMOZ promoting it?
No problem. I am glad that you did this. it only shows that DMOZ editors are not only have "affirmative views" but also are not above bribery and blackmails. According to your reasoning, I am the following person, all mold in one: massage place in Vancouver, Domain reseller, different of type of classified for cars, boats, different type of discussion boards, software developer in financial industry, different female escorts in Canada and USA, import company from china, janitorial company in Spain, car dealership, restaurant directory and timeshare company in Iran. I mean you or your friends have tried both bribery and blackmail many times before and it hasn't worked, so why do you think it will work this time?
Here is one of porno sites Gworld is publishing from the list posted http://www.exotics-yacht.com/ I have not checked them all, but this one has some sexy photos on it!
You gave the answer for your question yourself. Because it is on the net. This does not mean we must list anything that is on the net and it also does not mean that I agree with everything that is happening in DMOZ/Adult. But why should we not list it? It is a major part of the internet. A lot of people are interested in it (why else do you think that so many people are able to earn a living by running pornsites).
That is directly after I clean some houses in spain www.helpbees.com , I go sell yacths in the harbor. Then I fly back to Canada and sell some cars at: www.buysportcar.com.
It has to do with RESPONSIBILITY, pagode. It has to do with IMPLIED ENDORSEMENT OR APPROVAL. There are numerous sites on the internet that I would never even indirectly promote from any of my sites; sites that promote bigotry, discrimination, hate; pro-suicide and pro-anorexia sites; sites that promote violence, misogyny, sexual assault; etc., etc. Somewhere, people with any sense of morality and ethics have to decide where to draw the line. DMOZ evidently has not figured out how to do that.
There are plenty of vertical porn search engines and directories..... The big question share holders, citizens and parents will be asking is: What the hell does AOL promote this industry for I see AOL dumping all of this quickly to avoid a public relations disaster and major legal problems! Google will have something to do with this decision also with the heat that is on the SE's right now! This is out of the editors hands I believe as AOL management will make the decisions here based on possible legal and public relations problems!
Exactly. Yes, you are just following the guidelines of DMOZ listing these disgraceful sites, but you have to at least feel a little bit guilty for placing sites in DMOZ that could cause serious harm to other human beings. I could not knowingly promote a site (listing it is promoting it) that talks about how child rape is acceptable or how suicide is a valid answer to your problems. If you can do this, you need to take a step back and review your ethics and morals.
The information was two clicks away and in the public domain - he wasn't hiding anything from anyone who knows how to use a whois service. Which is just about every editor and every webmaster. So it was a pretty stupid demonstration by ex-editor deobfuscator and like sidjf says, of no relevance whatsoever when it comes to issues. I dare say there are adult webmasters who are also editors and who are also against listing child molestor networking sites.
This argument is about making sense at this point for everyone involved. It does not make sense for AOL to continue to list these sites with the heat on the search engines on porn issues, it does not make sense for DMOZ editors to take a chance with adult any longer because of this pending public relations disaster! AOL must know that this issue is going to make the national news now! AOL must do what makes sense for their share holders, for children and for parents who want to protect their children from porn on the internet.
And even that much is assuming the information is accurate. Obfuscator identified a web-hosting service with a number of sites on it. So? Check out the server for my main sites: Host Name : psychlinks.ca IP Address: 72.22.69.125 It wouldn't surprise me to learn that there are porn sites somewhere on those servers too. So what? I don't own the servers. I contract with the owners to host my sites there.
Yes. I'm sure we are all sharing space with porn sites. I can't wait! You think CNN will send a reporter to my house for an interview?
