Hi, I have submitted my client site in Dmoz, and i was listed just in 20 days, ( i have submitted web in garments category). but i am trying since 2 years, no result. I think Dmoz takes time to submit in computers category as there are lot of peoples submit in same category on daily basis, but for other category we got approval fast. What you think??
I'm sure there are categories that attract more submissions (and spam) than others, so I wouldn't be surprised if it takes longer before an editor has an interest in looking through the submissions. If your submission was before the server crash, it might be a good idea to resubmit as I understand most of the submissions were lost. In any event, best of luck with your submission.
dmoz is a secret paid directory * you will need to find a dmoz editor and pay to him for the listing. the prices on english categories are 30-150$ and the prices under world category goes will 400$. * in my opinion, spam sites stays forever and they are accepted with a better speed than normal web sites. * apply for the editorship to your dmoz category and dmoz is is a directory the sites of editors. you will see so many dmoz editor will reject what i have said but the truth is what i have said.
Hey trichnosis, why don't you offer one of us a bribe and see what happens, . (if it hasn't happened already)
You know all too well that open bribes are dealt with to save face with the public. It's the private transactions done through anonymous places like scriptlance is where all such transactions take place, and the prices given do seem to match... Getting listed is a pure crap shoot and is not worth the cost or risks of getting banned. The tried and true method of simply submitting and forgetting is the best way to go...well, maybe not bothering to submit (as the wait time is often the same).
if you are not going to give seriousness answers, pls shut your big mouth up. did you hear any public bribe? a classic dmoz editor answer (like crowbar did) is if they have no answer, they start to give stupid answer. they allways try to create information dirtiness like crowbar or jim nobble has tried before
Afraid to put your money where your mouth is? Here's a little truth for you. 3 people tried to bribe me, and 3 people and their sites are now banned, and it was done immediately. (and it was done in private, Q, not publicly)
And was it also through a site like scriptlance? Yet is is kind of odd that one broken rule can result in a site never getting listed at all ever, yet the breaking of several rules can result in a site remaining within the directory. I guess that is just the dual nature of the ODP.
No, actually one was a PM at RZ, and the other two were offered through my dmoz profile page. When something like that happens, I take it as a personal slap in the face. Editors don't get paid or even thanked, and we are trusted by the Directory and our fellow editors to be honest, impartial, and worthy of that trust. Those that can't be trusted, are scum in our eyes, period.
The computer's category generaly takes longer to get a site in because it attracts more spam. I'd forget about submitting and go to other directories.
The reasons are numerous. - an editor just happened to edit that category just after you submitted the site - depends how many sites are in unreviewed in the category - depends if an editor happens upon your site - depends if the site has unique content compared to the other sites in that category - depends if that category has a lot of spam - depends if you submitted to appropriate category - depends if you gave a good guideline compliant title and description - etc
Perhaps, one other reason site listings gets delayed may be attributed to ODP editors spending too much time answering question from a same person so many times...
dmoz editors does not answer any question. they ignore the messages they only check their paypal account , if the dmoz listing money is paid or not
First of all, I think I have seen you around this forum already for quite some time, thought you were that old bitz(ch) from Australia as you have the same pussy-cat avatar long time ago or was it a couple of years ago. I really do pity you and my utmost condolence for the removal of your link while your competitors spam link is still there and listed. Welcome to the club of the Most Ignored Ones in DMOZ. Lucky for you you are only in one club as there as peeps like me who are even in the Banned Club and the Do Not List Club. I'll provide you with an example as my website in my avatar is awaiting a listing but instead even robozilla can't catch a stupid site since its not a dead one but a redirect. It been sitting there for quite some time now with no one glancing on some sections as the editor of that regional category is busy with other things such as washing her old panties or the category editor guarding his precious travel and tourism sites and search engine (near the travelogues). Its a money making site and trust me ads don't come cheap especially in that genre. http://www.dmoz.org/Recreation/Travel/Travelogues/Asia/Philippines/ Philippine Travel Blog - A collection of travel blogs for the Philippines. Anywho who comes to that may list my site instead. My advice for you is to move on to a better link building strategy. Forget about DMOZ and do not stress yourself about a directory that does not even cares about you. It will be wise not to put too much weight on it as like every other good link you can find its just a another good link. Move on and don't stress yourself and maybe in time it would come back as we don't know if it was placed in the review queue. They really don't. When I used to be an editor I never answered any e-mails or questions regarding pending sites. In only a few instance I, actually twice, I e-mailed a website owner for having a well designed and content managed site but thats about it. Jim Noble, that old guy with dementia, does not answer at all so don't expect any unless you have a question about his sickness (dementia) and the usage of his pampers, no answers can be given. That is not true in most cases except for crowbar and some of his associates. While there are honest editors who really do care, there are some who gets away with payments, but that is very discreet and very secret mostly in the adult, real estate, shopping, or business categories.
Hey popotalk, I think you are mixing my avatar with somebody else. I have designed my "pussy-cat avatar" myself, in fact it's my logo and I use it as trademark. On this page, I can see only one "pussy-cat avatar", well two with this post but they belongs to me, ck101, aka CreativeKitten. I haven't been in this forums before. I have joined in July 2008 and certainly I am not from Australia.
Forgive me if I had confused you on some things. My bad. I was referring to an old avatar of a "wrinkled pussy" from Australia who happens to be a Meta Editor at DMOZ and an Admin at RZ. Well ok if you say so, if you haven't joined before this forum then Welcome. I know that your not from Australia as I smell you coming from Noord Holland Amsterdam and looking at my crystal ball now you really like pussy-cat or are you a pussy-cat doll. There was member of this forum and an active a$$ sucking DMOZ editor by the name of Pv gou'ld or pvgool can't remember exactly, that have a snake or symbiote in his belly or a snake himself. Anyway Welcome.
LOL. Hey POPO! Well I have edited in shopping for several years and have yet to see an example of that. But then again I'm not a meta editor. Still I come in contact with hundreds of editors( and know several meta editors) and I would think that I would have at least heard of a story or two if it was prevalent.
When such editors are found out they are let go. In some cases the stories have gone public... surely you have heard of editors getting canned for taking bribes? If you have not, then you are not looking hard enough Seriously, if it does not happen, then the rules on such things would not be so strict...
First of all, how you've been J. Theres no example its all "secret". If it were not a secret then at the end of the submission link theres a payment form or it is a market trading place. That is why its a secret = The word Secret. I'll tell you one instance in Business Category if you like as I know the details very well since I met the business owner in Rhode Island and how its been "packaged".
I agree that DMOZ directory does not carry the same clout it once did years ago. Ask anyone that has a tracking device how much traffic is referred to them from DMOZ and I promise you it will be little to none. Don't concentrate too much on one traffic source.
