It is not easy to submit a website to DMOZ. The editor is will review all aspects including copyright. I have submitted three years ago, but my website is not in DMOZ.
Copyright is not an issue, but they do claim that original content is. There is a slight difference, in that they at times will approve a clone of a site yet not list the original. Submitting is also pretty easy, as easy as any other directory... getting your site listed is another matter though
I wonder what other myths there are about. I have listed 20,000+ sites, I don't know how to check for PR and certainly how the heck do you think we can check on copyright, when most web site owners have difficulty keeping hold of any copyright. Only if it is brought to our attention that a site has broken the law are we likely to look at this issue, but, and it pains me to say this , Q is right we do look for unique content rich sites.
I have few friends whose sites have been listed i sub-categories that there are very few or may be one site but the other sub-categories where there are plenty of sites, it is certainly difficult to get listed. Not sure what the reason is.
You might know the reason if you read the stickie at the top of this section and also glance at this post that I made recently http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=13579529&postcount=37.
Don't go for standard categories - instead go for the regional section - much more chance of getting in there - I have made 3 subs to regional and all got in within a couple of weeks
To be listed in a regional category you need to show that you have a base or specifically relate to that locality, providing an address on the site helps too.
Try reading the threads on here and the stickie before you post, you will find all the answers if you bother to do that.
I have submitted my website approximately 1 year ago and it is still not approved. DMOZ is one of the worst directories I have ever seen, very slow approving rate.
Really? How then can you explain that DMOZ added over 9000 sites in January and is well on the way to passing that figure for February? Most directories do not even have 9000 sites listed!, let alone grow by that many in one month!
Give it a few more years for a review that might result in a listing. If you read before you post you will see that we are NOT a listing service, we do not set out to approve the sites that have been suggested, they are just suggestions, we set out to build categories and some editors use the suggestions pool to do that. Others use other sources. Other directories offer services to list and undertake to list a site which conforms to their guidelines, we have never offered that service.
Being listed in Dmoz is no different than being listed in any quality directory that is a pr4-pr6. Dmoz is well known but other directories that have quality listings and the directory it's self is high quality, than you will basically see the same results as you would in Dmoz. You just need to see it as "Just another directory" and not some special spot in the internet that you have to be in to get noticed. There are many other ways to get your site revealed on the web by SEO services, paying a company to submit your site to thousands upon thousands of directories (watch this as you may get listed on a low PR or high PR and it have no quality at all). I submitted my site to Dmoz about 2 weeks ago, I don't expect to get in as it could be 4 years down the road and my site would possibly get listed, who knows these with the editors at Dmoz. Keep your chin up and maybe you will hit the jack pot and get into Dmoz...
Actually, there is a huge difference For a start, inclusion is not guaranteed whereas when you list with other directories, it pretty well is. Furthermore, you are not "listing" a site in DMOZ, you are suggesting a site and it may or may not be reviewed and included, by a volunteer editor at some stage, but we do not know when that will be.
Well, you quoted this Any way of showing that those 9000 sites added in january have not been sitting around in the suggestion pool for the last two years, or that ANY the listed ones even came from the suggestion pool? YES THE ODP IS SLOW, ask nearly anyone that submits a site. Are you really trying to disagree with that Agent00?
We are slow to do what site owners want us to do, but we are quick to do what we want to do ie serve those who view not those who want to try and use DMOZ just for what they can get out of it.
i also submitted my website www.careersinpk.com and www.friendsmania.net .. .. how to know that submitted problem or my website is submitted or not ?
You said you submitted it, so it must be submitted One day it may be reviewed and included, but that can vary from 1 day to many years. You will not be notified, you can do no more after suggesting your site, so move on and promote it through other means.
