I get the feeling they are not. When I was submitting to a category Personal Weblogs> 1 I found that 2/3 websites listed were broken links. The other websites is borderlining spam. When I saw that I thought I would apply. I wrote a 2000+ word application out. The application was completely thought out. The worst part was finding personal weblogs that started with the number one. After hours of searching I managed to find a couple websites that met the DMOZ guidelines to the bone. Finally after clicking submit I thought I would get it. After all it has less than 100 websites and no editors in sight. To my suprise I recieved a rejection letter. I decided to try a couple more times and was rejected every single time. Even though it's not solid evidence that DMOZ isn't accepting applications I get the feeling that they are.
I applied many times for different sites but didn't receive any reply from them. I think they are not maintaining the directory anymore. Google should start their own open directory to help the novice
But mine rejected. Don't know why. Anonymously suggested me the category also. And I applied as you and anonymously suggested. My application got rejected within 2 hours. Dmoz is really fast. At least rejecting editor's applications.
do what you want......but if the site is unlistable, not matter how much you fight or "stand", the site is still unlistable
Unlistability is more a function of business model than ugliness; a quick fix isn't usually possible. You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig.
If he sticks for the unlistability then it will not work. But if he makes as per dmoz rules, then it could work.
Hello, I know why both of your sites have not been added. YOU HAVE A COMPLETE AND TOTAL INABILITY TO READ PROPERLY. Heh, simple isn't it? This thread is clearly NOT about pages, so why are either of you even talking about that? Thread hijacking? that's against the guidelines here and is infraction worthy, you both know that right? No, my guess is you simply didn't bother to read anything before you posted, which leads me to believe you didn't bother reading the guidelines of the ODP either. so yeah... good luck in life. In the future, you both may wish to RTFM, it often makes life MUCH easier
Only lisptick on this thread is on Snooks's avatar, Jim, now I understand how Snooks got it. #NeVerTrYFoRME If you applied to the category I listed, you never read any of the hot tips. I pointed you to the part of the directory which contained some categories in the interest field you wanted. Perhaps you ought to take Jim's advice on another thread and offer to a World category in your native language. Remember accepting or declining editors is above my level of responsibility in DMOZ, but it is what Jim has been doing for years.
I applied for the same category as you suggested as an example here. Though that was not my native language, but I was able to follow for "Suggest 3 websites". May be rejecting my application the Admin got fun.
You told me you could not find any category for Colleges and Universities, I pointed you to the area. I would be interested which sites you thought were suitable for a top category with no sites listed there because the category was broken down by area. Why did you ignore the hot tip that said "Apply to a category with between 50 and 100 sites listred already INCLUDING sub categories." One of the things I know Metas look for in editor applications is the ability to read and comply with guidelines.
