Mostly minor ones but I dought any significant ones would be discussed outside of internal forums.

Silly, i didnt say they were all minor, but the majority are minor. The ones that are not minor would not be talked about outside the internal forums. :)

Why not? All that does is hint of something major and invite idle speculation and leaks. Why not just be open and honest across the board and remove much of the negativity generated by unnecessary secrecy.

DMOZ currently has two problems. Because of the amount of categories it has (which is to its credit, not detriment) it has around 8 times more categories then editors - and it has around 75,000 editors! - This means some categories go unedited, or edited poorly by someone who has no interest.

Secondly - although not openly being touted - it is looking for a new owner.

I believe, and this is merely rumour - that any new owners must adhere to the policies originally set out by Gnuhoo who were the first owners. So - that is why some of the big guns like google have not already come out of the woodwork to buy out DMOZ

This left the current owners with a headache. They have a considerable asset that is causing them grief, but for it to be marketable it needs to be seen to be working properly - that is why the vast majority of features has been turned back on.

Watch this space, what is betting that we have some January sales in DMOZ?

IIRC only few thousand editors are really active and before crash on average only 2-3 sites got listed per editor each month! 75k is total number of editors who joined since day one. Editor ranks will probably be even more decimated since no new ones got recruited and old ones found new hobbies during crash. :(

Since Zeal got scraped I doubt anyone will be very interested unless they know a way to integrate it with YouTube.

Not few thousand, only 300-500 editors. ;)

There is interest in buying DMOZ, the problem is to find some one in AOL that can make decision. It seems nobody even cares to look at DMOZ situation in AOL.

If someone were to buy DMOZ it would be a drain on their resources rather than AOL's unless they changed the model. I can't see why anyone would want to buy it as it stands and keep it that way.

People don't do everything just for the money. Take original concept, bring the procedures to the 21st century by improving the concept and stopping the corruption, make it a real volunteer organization and you will have something positive. ;)

Those most likely to be able to afford DMOZ are also most likely to have commercial pressures.
Which will not happen I suspect with a sale to another corporate entity. The way to safeguard that would be a non-profit trust of some kind with strong independent oversight. The chances of that happening would not appear likely.

Not all corporations are bad, some would like to do something positive, feel good and have a tax right-off too. Price is not as high as you imagine either. ;)

Look at the present situation in DMOZ, the corruption is not caused by AOL but by "senior" editors and possibly some staff. AOL only fault is mismanagement of all the assets that they have.
