Is DMOZ still a must for knowadays SEO. Does it still "got the power" of those 300-700 backlinks and push you very quickly in SERPs... or DMOZ is just a
Well, I've seen some of the perks of being included in the DMOZ directory, because of PR, and that Google's directory is directly created from the DMOZ directory, but belonging to it will not make or break your site. Personally I hate DMOZ. Yes, the DMOZ editors love to expound on the fact that they are incredibly busy with backlog of sites to go through, and in all honesty, I can believe that the backlog is enormous. But I've also, PERSONALLY seen and heard the corruption that goes on there. Editors playing favorites. Site owners who are editors "blacklisting" competitors. By blacklisting I'm not suggesting that they actually delete a submission, just that because the backlog is so full, they can just leave a submission in there. And a plethora of quidelines that suggest they as editors have a lot of room to "use" in order not to include a submission. We all have some gripes about them. Again, I want to be honest. I readily believe that these people have a MOUNTAIN, EACH, of submissions to go through. However, I also believe that the corruption is a thorn on the rest of the website owners sides. Now, this claim I'm making is totally unsubstantiated, because I refuse to release the source of this information. However, I know of an ex-editor, who told me, under no uncertain terms, that he only got into dmoz in order to promote his own sites. He also told me that he reviewed other sites, mmmmaaaaayyyyybeeeee, once a month, and then would effectively kill sites he just didn't want competing with him, and doing favors for other editors who wanted one of their sites, or friends sites in the directory. He also admitted to me that he did "sell" inclusions, but would not tell me there what's or why's. I'm sure he is only a rotten apple in the bunch, but I've come across other stories where this seems common place. Again, I repeat, I'm sure most of the DMOZ editors are honestly trying to do the job, and do it correctly. But I also think that some of them feel like they belong to an elitist club, in that these long time editors are now a little jaded, and it's their way or the highway. I think the basic sub-culture of DMOZ breeds this type of attitude. They have something that everyone else wants. As honest and sincere some of them are, this can only lead to a skewed point of reference. .. .. .. Man, I'm long winded.
My story about DMOZ.I tried to join in a romanian category , all the forms/questions i had to complete/answer where in romanian! and guess what ... my form has been reviewed by an DMOZ editor from SPAIN ! what do you think about this?!
