You're allowed some skepticism, DustyG. Afterall, anyone participating in this game probably already have some of the categories on their radar (that they submitted to), so it's logical for them to list them first. Doesn't mean they intended it to be a way of getting their sites listed faster.

My god then I think that Dmoz should have extra staff of editors. Bcoz most of the sites that are in would have been expired. But domainers would have grabbed them and used them for good.

Thaanks this look nice seeing what a mess Dmoz is in. Thanks for bringing out the facts.

Sorry to interfere in the game but we know when domains are due to expire and sites are delisted if not renewed before the due date.

Everyone who knows anything about DMOZ already knows that there are many, many categories that haven't been updated in a long time.

A lot of categories have nothing suggested to them and no one has gone out looking for sites.

Others are @link farms. They exist for navigaional purposes only. Unless a new category is created that should be linked there, they usually won't be touched. For example: http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_Amer...Business_and_Economy/Event_Planning/Caterers/ but in this case I changed the little mozilla image down in the corner to grab away the points. :D

Other categories do matter. I don't think this game will be used in a bad way, after all an update is shown whenever we fix broken and redirecting links or work on a category charter. It all benefits the directory.

This is just a game. ;) And I like this game if it gets people to look beyond the categories that they have submitted to. It can promote a better understanding of how things work and at the same time we can have some fun.

Yeh, think about how many categories there are - i would be amazed if there weren't any that weren't 'forgotten' or not tended to as much as the ones receiving dozens of submissions every day. I wouldn't call this a mess, it's just a natural state of affairs, but you're certainly right that we need more editors - of course that's a fact, nobody has 'brought it out'!

I saw a bird today - hence proving birds exists. Bradley, bringin' out the facts!

Okay, I must be being just a blonde - what has changed here?

Further, it is not possible to update a page, title or description effectively changing the edit date while no actual listings were added or deleted?

Either way, it's nice to see some postive movement.

The changes may not be showing on the public servers yet, but I got rid of some obvious bad sites in unreviewed, updated the category description in the charter, corrected a couple of redirecting URL's, removed a listing from one of the subcategories that had very little content and lots of links to Adult sites, and changed the Mozilla image.

I don't edit in that area enough to feel comfortable doing site reviews to add or delete, so I cleaned things up so another editor can go through what's left much quicker. So, there's about 20 minutes of work that you don't easily see unless you look really close and the edit date changes because real work was done.

There's an incredible amount of positive movement every single day, but with the size of the directory no one really notices. But it happens all the same. :)

Pyrotechnics - cool - that would drive my husband mad. I can just imagine: "kids come outside and play, guess what I found on the 'net today?!"
