DMOZ: Requesting reinstatement

Discussion in 'ODP / DMOZ' started by pawlala, Apr 10, 2005.

    Hi everyone :)

I recently (a week ago) requested reinstatement to my categories as a Dmoz editor and as yet received nothing. I'm quite keen on getting on with adding several new links but still haven't been accepted

Does anyone know how long reinstatement takes these days? Any other info would be great :)

Apart from the fractional PR boost given for being listed in Dmoz, does it really make much difference to SERPS?

They seem like a right shower to me, so I might as well just give up on the idea of ever getting listed, and hope it doesn't matter as much as people claim it does.

yes .... it does matter, dmoz has something like 4 million backlinks,
    serp's........ every little helps.
not many people search thru dmoz...usually your competitors
your site will get listed as soon as you fill it up ;)
    teehee..... :)

i have sites listed that were never even submitted ...woohoo !!

It's still just another backlink. And yes, I know the links are mirrored on several other sites but I'm not so sure thise mirrors carry the weight people believe they do.

Either way, there are many other ways to get the backlinks, and all of the other ways are far less agravating than submitting to DMOZ.

By all means submit your site. Then hold your nose and back out slowly and get on with your life.

I feel a DMOZ listing helps as far as SERPS. Besides the link, there are some PR4 DMOZ clones/directories that show as backlinks on google. As far as generating traffic from the listing - I haven't seen much.

I have never had a site rejected- although once took over a month to get listed- and then you need to wait for google to update it's feed. I think it really depends on the editor of the category. From what I've heard, some never seem to do anything.

I just submitted a new site last week so I'll see. It's been about 8 months since I last submitted a site. I have never had any contact from DMOZ. One day you are just listed.

Those editors must do nothing as all the submissions are sent in via the submission page, what do they do with them

No one knows because they do not even send you an email one way or another

That is why I say all the editors should be fired because they really don't do a damned thing anyway other than approve the sites they like, big deal

They could list every site submitted and if the sites are no good the users of the directory could vote the bad sites out of the index.

So what the hell do you need human editors for

The categories varied, but were fashion/accessory related and I spent weeks on the graphic design of each one (although I'm picky and slow).

I don't know anyone who is an editor and only submitted each one once. I've read a lot of horror stories so I know a problem exits- I just haven't personally experienced it.

Well I'm glad they have one happy customer and I am sincerely happy for you. You obviously have had the rare fortune of dealing with one or more editors who actually care about the directory and who aren't just power crazy jerks.

Paula, what has been the reason for you to abandon your editor position?

DMOZ is used as a database for many search engines to pull results from, a lot of "META ENGINES" that pull results from many different sources including spidering search engines use their database.

So you can get direct hits from inclusion in DMOZ from many places other than DMOZ and Google also uses their database for the Google directory.

it is more than worth it, having had a real estate listing in the past 2 years can be estimated as millions in value considering the sales generated by leads which without DMOZ's SERP boosts would have never come in. Why you think we talk about DMOZ so much?
