DMOZ is grabbing sites from Internet sources and list them without owners knowledge. You are right, we have many sites that our editors added using different sources the same way DMOZ does, the only difference AMRAY doesn't claims ownership and making people who are using our database post any attributes in their sites. fastreplies
Really? So why are so many key sites missing from most categories at Amray? That makes it a useless directory for the surfer. No wonder it was deleted from DMOZ.
What the hell are you talking about? Get your facts straight before making full of yourself fastreplies
@jimnoble I was laughing about your post.Good one. Yes, its clear in the email, they declined your application due to Self-Promotion.
Fact: Amray somehow got listed in DMOZ ( I only know that because you told us so) Fact: Amray got removed from DMOZ (I only know that because you told us so) Fact: You have been whinging about this for a while now (who is making a "full" of themselves?) Fact: Go to any catgeory in Amray. There are key sites not listed in that category Fact: That lack of comprehensive coverage of each category makes Amray not very useful as a directory to the surfer Fact: DMOZ was probably right to remove it and not list it. Which facts cam I getting wrong?
You forgot to mention Topix! You also forgot to mention the option for the actual END USER submitting coke & nike... or do you really think that would never happen? *sigh* THE END USER SHOULD NOT BE THE EDITOR OR THE WEBMASTER! Why do you people keep forgetting that? Thread hijacking anyone? Why is it when people that are supporting the ODP as it stands all do that? Why can't they stick to the points within a conversation? COuld it be they have something to hide? Double standards?
And have another one of you follow up with additional diversions from the topic Its as if there is really something you guys are trying to do... oh, that's right... make the poster look bad because there is no way you can make the post look bad. Says a lot about the ODP with people like you guys supporting it!
I have several websites listed in dmoz, but Im not receiving even single click from them. I also don't see them as backlink to these websites. What is benefit of getting there? I think if you rejected by dmoz, last thing you should do is worry about.

Perhaps you should elaborate on how these listing/ non-listing did occur. You say you don't get clicks there from? Do you get clicks via google?
Don't be so sure. Really? Web sites like this are routinely listed in directories. Including directories like mine. They are usually submitted by whatever firm is promoting them, or doing SEO/Marketing for them. Just because a site is popular, or is a notable company it does not mean that they are just automatically granted listings in directories by default. Someone submitted them.
We don't list websites because they're popular or notable, we list them because they're useful. We don't only list websites because they've been suggested, we go out and find others too. I created a new locality category in Ireland the other day because I already had a couple of sites that had been suggested at a higher level and reckoned that I could find some more. I found another nine (ISTR) that had never been suggested and so created it. We call this category building. Folks can't suggest websites to categories that haven't yet been created. (Don't ask me the cat name 'cos I've forgotten and our editorside is currently down for maintenance so I can't check my logs.)
How did you findthe other nine? I'm asking for interest sake. If they are from a search engine that would just skim off sites already strongly promoted.
I wasn't about to fly over there and look at store fronts and trucks so yes, search engines. However, when searching for an obscure Irish town's name, once one's got down below the usual search engine trash, there are local butchers, bakers and candlestick makers - just the kind of thing we're looking for in a small locality category. They haven't spent more than 200€ on their websites and I'd guess that most have never heard of SEO techniques, still less spent any money on them. We aren't entirely stupid and we can tell the difference between honest small websites and KW stuffed to death nonsense
Yes I do receive clicks from Google, and actually 80% of my visitors are from Google on these websites, but no single click from DMOZ. But actually I'm OK with that. I prefer people will find my website on Google than on DMOZ.
I think you got a point there, Jim. Someone that makes it worthwhile, will have put some effort into his website, yet certain features will distinguish him from the spammy web sites search engines are trashed with.
