DMOZ can be like that. That's why don't put a lot of confidence in them.

Did you even read this thread before posting? The thread starter claimed DMOZ rejected their site, when actually what had happened is that their editors application was rejected .... good thing too as if they are confused between the two, then what sort of editor would that sort of person make?

Also only had negative experiences and have never tried to submit something again there.
Can't recall that they actually gave a formal reason for rejection.

But it still seems to be worthwhile, if one can score a success there.

We don't advise suggestors if a site is used or not, so you won't get any formal reply other than the one which acknowledged safe receipt. As you may have read it can be from a few days to a few years before a review for a possible listing happens.

No....simply suggest your site and at some stage, it may or may not be included. There is no time frame and no guarantee.

Alternatively, you could NOT submit your site and it may or may not be included...

Funny that there is an equal chance of getting it (or even reviewed) if you submit or not.

Not sure I would agree with that. I just look at suggesting a site has nothing more than increasing the chances that an editor will come across the site and consider it.

My monies with Agent000, back it both ways, suggest and it might get found by an editor or an editor might find it before getting round to the suggestions. That must increase the chances of being found.

No, its really a crap shoot.

Some editors refuse to use it, that much is clear.

It's also clear that some editors think that the only people that use it are webmasters.

It's also clear that many of those editors think that webmasters are the evil scum of the earth.

It stands to reason that some of those editors then treat their QUEUE as a black list.

Of course, there are those select few editors that ONLY work from the queue.

See... it's a crap shoot, that depends on the category, and since editors don't talk about it, then people should submit at their own risk!

And with the seemingly average wait time being a year or more, then who is really to know who got the site from where regardless of it being submitted or not? There is NO communication... so honestly there is a fair chance a submitted site was rejected, then found by one of the hundreds of other editors with access and was added then. *shrug* Again, who is to know? The ODP is ripe with double standards... while one site is given twenty thousand deep links of nothing but duplicate content, other sites are not even given a chance with 100% original content... so yeah, funny how the ODP works. I say one thing, you say another... yet who is one to believe?

Surely, it should be you the editor?!? Surely it must... but you won't even give your name.

If there are so many problems with DMOZ and it's editor, are there any alternatives to be suggested?

many have tried, but none have succeeded. What makes you think there are problems? DMOZ listed over 10,000 sites in July. What is wrong with that? Thats an awesome acheivement

That's the spirit. Just that DMOZ helps you by clapping more then one fly at once. Anyway, the other directories will be useful as well.

Odd, I've had sites listed in DMOZ that I never even submitted. Go figure.

Whats odd about it? More than half the sites that get listed in DMOZ were never suggested in the first place

Can you imagine site like whitehouse.gov, nike.com, cocacola.com, wallmart.com etc spending time suggesting there sites to directories? How valuable would be the USA govt, running shoe, soft drink and shopping mall categories be in directories without these sites listed?

DMOZ is quality over quantity, they even have human editors. Maybe your site does not offer enough unique value?

Did you actually read this tread before posting? The OP's site was not actually rejected.
