DMoz question...

Discussion in 'ODP / DMOZ' started by MobileP, Jun 3, 2005.

I know submitting to it is very important and it really takes long that the site is listed but... What if you have couple of sites and some you submitted and others not and you forgot which they were? :(

is there a way to check which sites were posted? or should i repost especcialy if the content has changed a bit or something?

    Thanks

Search your domain name without the TLD. Should bring it up. Or search your description in ""'s in Google with site:dmoz.org .

Thanks :) i don't want to resubmit it if it hasn't been listed since i don't want to get to the end of the queue again.

i believe the search facility on dmoz is broken, or often broeken, so to check for a listing in dmoz if you cannot remember or (quite likely) they've moved it to another cat., would that be a gg search on "site:dmoz.org+mysite.com" ?

No - that Google search will never help you

It would have to be site:dmoz.org "unique string in the dmoz title of description" - so if you have a company name and that was used in the DMOZ title that would work. But a Goolgle search could be two months behind the actual ODP data.

There was an technical glitch in the DMOZ search for the last few months, right now it's working. Remember it's up to ten days behind the actual data in the directory. When searching use abc.com rather than www.abc.com

all this checking will only return sites that were approved by dmoz and listed. i am pretty sure that ones that you submitted but which are still awaiting response are not going to show up. the only way to really know whether you submitted or not is to ask dmoz editors at resource-zone.com. give them your url and ask when (if) it was submitted and to which category

Resource Zone is dead, seems that telling everyone that their site could be listed in the next 64 years was too much work for the editors, now they can go back to scratching their balls all day and taking 5 minutes to submit (and approve, of course) their own sites...

still you have a chance of getting your question answered (which seems to be your only chance)

EDIT: just checked out resource zone again. yeah, they no longer have the right forum to ask this type of question. so, i guess there is no way for you to find out

Not bad - only took six posts for the undead to arrive and post the usual rants.
