Quite ofen when I have tried to cotact a Category Editor I get this message shown below. Does this happen to anyone else?

    Proxy Error

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request POST /cgi-bin/send2.cgi.

Reason: Error reading from remote server

it's known issue , it's seems editors get the message but the error is shown only for the peoples , nothing to worry about this , anyway suppose you know trying to contact editors asking them to list your site is not helping you :) ( or at least some of them claiming ) ... anyway from my part the error show's only the professionalism of the programmer who's manage this , simple mail forms can be found everywhere on the net this days most of them are free , also are loads of places where someone even without programming experience can read and learn with maxim one day to code an simple email form if they really need . Will be better to show this error since from index file :) big black and red letters '' THIS PLACE IS A HOLE ERROR "' :)

Unfortunately yes. It is a known bug, but apparently not high on the list of priorities for AOL to fix.
Volunteers have no access to that sort of technical issue.

However, there will be little point in contacting any editor directly, because if you wish to report a problem with a listed site, the Update URL feature is more helpful, and if you wish to ask about a non-listed site, volunteers have learned from long and bitter experience not to respond to such approaches.

The ODP is not a listing service, and helping people wishing to list their own site is not the focus of our work, so our time is far better spent building the directory than replying to disappointed (or angry) webmasters. I'm sure you understand that. :)

It's also an issue for when the editors here say "if you don't like something, contact AOL staff" as the only link to the staff is through the email of their profile accounts, one has to wonder if the reason they will not fix this "known issue" is a matter of someone not wanting them to be contacted...it may also be one of the reasons that the staff are doing nothing about many of the known issues, as no one can really let them know.

That may well be the case, but again, you have the same access to AOL that volunteers do, so complaining at or criticising editors for this lack of access is completely futile. If you are frustrated by things which need fixing, try and imagine what it is like for volunteers actually working on the directory.

I thought maybe things have changed with the redirect, captcha, and the blog... I guess I was wrong.

I said that I thought maybe things had changed... from my experience, the AOL staff does not really care all that much for the project, or they WOULD be involved. When I was an editor, there was ONE staff that posted even remotely regularly, and it was MONTHS since his last post on the internal forums. So again... I thought maybe things had changed.

It's nice of you to point out my own experiences though, rather then post about your own...being a supposed active editor and all.

With the corruption and dictatorial way how ODP promote their listing service , and the way how you guy's choose to '' share the love '' it's hard to believe someone really care about this damn it crap spam link directory . This is only bullshits about keeping an official advertising campaign ! Just with the reason to keep public interest about the directory alive , to increase the revenue generated for peoples with you colaborate ( for example mods from this forum ) ... Soon or later most of webmasters will know how things are go and what need to do to get listed on the spam directory , or how much they need to pay for that
