If you are having quality site than don't worry about it. Dmoz usually takes 6 months to 1 year for approval and if not. Than leave it. Wap Community sites are not there in Dmoz though they got the 1st pages rank in major SE's. Best of luck
For once Qr... has given quite nice and civil answers ( though not all with the right tone , but still quite praiseworthy ). To start with , read this : http://www.dmoz.org/help/submit.html and http://www.dmoz.org/guidelines/ . It is very important that you read them to understand the reason behind any rejection or WHY's. Google Pagerank , Sites look and feel , its link popularity or neighborhood - NONE of these have any relevance to your sites inclusion or exclusion in the ODP . Not all category in the ODP is slow in reviewing websites , on the contrary several categories have editors who compete with one another ( supposedly ) , to increase the number of listed url's . However the main point behind any inclusion is usually the site's uniqueness in content . A listed site could be a web portal , a news archive, a game site or a single story / article or blog feed , as long as it is unique and somewhat updated .
I've been trying to get my site listed for almost a year now. I've pretty much given up on Dmoz. And from what I hear, some of their mods like playing God with your site and may even bribe you to keep your site listed.
paying does not surely help ... take my word for it ... or dont . however reading the guidelines 3-4 times WILL actually . Behelpful with your submission , because the person you are submitting to does not get paid if and when he reviews it . so he will be less inclined to go through your submission if it does not meet the basic guidelines . remember , you are submitting the site to a volunteer project , not a paid directory .
I'm actually civil to most people, including editors. In fact, re-read most of my posts in this forum. You'll see that I am pretty straight forward and almost always back up my claims with links either from the ODP itself, or from it's editors. Editors then follow in and point out my edit count and make other personal jabs. Though strangely enough even when I do back up what I say or am civil, I'm told that I'm lying or misleading people... for instance.... That is shakey advice according to some editors... http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=585717&page=2 Now is it shakey because *I* said it, or is there something wrong with the guidelines? And then people wonder how I am sometimes uncivil
DMOZ crashed late last year and any sites still in queue have been lost. Resubmit them and start the wait all over again
I submitted a one page blog with no pr it was accepted after about 45 days of submission. It is a very unique with very good info though. I have noticed that it does help your site make its way to other directories.
DMOZ is like Google Page Rank... some people think DMOZ is worthless, but some people think its worth while. Personally, I think its worth while. Heres why? - Normally, if you get your site listed in DMOZ.... you will be spidered by all of the search engines + Google directory. - I am not sure how often, but DMOZ does there RDF Dump. People can use this dump to be used on there websites.... that is free one way links to your site. Even if you get a few links from the dump.... that is a few links you used not to have.
There are varying opinions about submitting your site to dmoz. I submitted it long back and forgot it. Later after 6 months again resubmitted but to no avail. Some says you can influence the editors of the dmoz and get your site listed there very quickly. Don't know how?
