I said something like: what the the hell, after waiting for long. And they said something like: "that category is not deep enough", although there are some old listings there. In any case, dmoz is not as important as it used to be.
Hello Ziandra, Thanks for that post. I do lots of volunteer work, myself and I find that most people don't say thanks, but do complain if I don't do it well enough or fast enough or meet some other standard they have for me. I try to be greatful for other volunteers. I've been waiting forever for a dmoz listing. Since I submitted, my site has grown by 100% and will continue to grow, so it can only be good in the long run. At least that's what I'm telling myself.
Too bad technicalities also seem to keep some highly qualified/motivated folks from becoming editors as well after spending lots of time preparing an application.
I just resubmitted my application for editor again with the errors fixed (I hope) so perhaps this time it will be approved.
MOst editors didn't get approved at their first application - it takes a bit to "get" what the ODP are looking for.
Well, I certainly have plenty of experience, time and interest in the category so I can't imagine what else they would be looking for.
The ability to write accurate english. Comprehension of the ODP style guide. The ability to be able to distinguish the wheat from the chaff. The ability to be impartial when listing sites. The ability to be a team player and work well with other editors. I'm not saying you don't have any of those, just amplifying on what they look for. (Note: This is what the ODP is looking for - not always what they get!)
Well, based on the application I am not sure how they will be able to determine the last two qualifications.
They could always add check boxes on the application: Are you a team player? Yes/No Do you play well with others? Yes/No Delete as applicable
You have a point for the last one - but the last but one they can get an idea of based on which sites are part of the 3 in the application, plus the workding used in the title and description. Not foolproof, of course, but gives an idea, at least.
LOL very good! I saw the application for Citizenship to the US a few years ago - it says something like: "Are you a terrorist, or have you been involved in a terrorist organisation? Yes/No"
