I think it is but its really hard to get into. I know a couple of people who had to wait quite a few months before knowing if their link got approved

For PR, it's the same as any other link. Google does give a DMOZ listing some trust, so that is the real benefit. Don't hold your breath waiting for for acceptance (it can sometimes take a year or more before it is even looked at) and it's not the end of the world if you don't get accepted.

Getting a link from dmoz will be an asset to any site because you will get some traffic from it
and it will also improve your rankings in the serp.

Traffic? Hardly anyone uses directories, and those that do likely find DMOZ lacking in up to date listings. So while some may trickle in now and again, you should find that most ODP traffic is actually editors looking into the listing, and fellow webmasters looking in on which of their competitors have a listing. Neither of which is all that high of quality.

It is a link though, and can pass along some PR, however, much of the perks of a DMOZ listing get countered by other SE filters such as duplicate content (as the link is cloned a hundred times by others using the RDF).

The update and approval processes in place within the directory are also rather slow, so getting a listing is not even all that great to assist in indexing, as a forum sig here on DP will be almost instantly found in Google, where as, an update in DMOZ may actually takes weeks to find it's way into a search engines cache.

It's certainly worth submitting, but it's worth pretty much stops there. So do what so many editors ask... Submit & forget!

Once that's done, then promote your site through other means, such as directories that update quicker and that are not cloned. Post in relevant blogs and forums, submit to article sites, and do other means of promotion and marketing... you'll be glad ya did!

Yah... try getting listed, but don't just rely on that for all of your backlinks.... submit your site, if you get accepted cool, if not, you'll have built tons of links if you work on it between now and the time you get accepted or rejected on DMOZ.

Don't rely on just one place to build backlinks.

DMOZ is useless, focus on building other relevant links. Submitting to directories isn't very helpful. Write good content, and get it out there. Its the best way to build quality links.

DMOZ is good for your PR, if and only if they will approve and include your site.

i personally think DMOZ is a bunch of unfair su*kers who ONLY accept sites that they(the volunteers audit the site) that they like. Other than that, they will just Drop or dump your site. Since 2004, my site is not listed in DMOZ. I think the auditor probably have the same site like mine and don't want any competitions. PERIOD!
