Jim, I assume that you maybe staring at my application. I'll wait for the official response then. Thanks!
Jim's kinda old school... he might actually read them before deciding. I've heard at least a few metas have a more egalitarian method... they print off a bunch of apps and throw them toward the far wall of their room (aka: their parent's basement). The ones that land beyond a certain line become editors (what, you thought Qryztufre got in on his essay skills?). Incidentally in those cases you're best typing as much as possible on the app, and use large fonts. The extra ink weight might make the difference. Of course you have to be careful... it's rumored a lotta the ones that get in for crossing the line get booted for the same reason. This useless bit of fantasy was brought to you as an intermission by the fine people at TexasBestHomes.com. Be sure to patronize our sponsors and tip your waitress.
You assume incorrectly. Having already called you on couple of umm inaccuracies here, I shan't be processing it - for obvious reasons.
Hmmmm... you lie about who you are, yet you expect people to believe you want to contribute honestly. People give all sorts of reasons why the DMOZ editing model is doomed, but at the core of its problems are sad little people like you doing whatever it is you think you need to do and try to get their tatty little sites listed. And what’s more you even have the audacity to start a thread on the quality of the editors. What exactly is it you would like to see, more liars like you. What is it you define as a quality editor? Liars are would seems to be Ok? Perhaps you draw the line at axe murders? The so called community management aspect of the directory centers itself on protecting the integrity of the directory from people like you. Hours are spent scrutinizing new applications for inconsistencies, much time is wasted looking at the edits of existing editors just in case cheats and lairs have snuck in, wouldn't it be fucking marvelous if we could actually spend our time building a directory?
Just to point out that using one's real identity is not obligatory when applying to become an editor. There are excellent reasons for using a pseudonym in some parts of the world. That said, applying under several different identities will make us wonder if there is intent to deceive and if so, why.
Yes there are good reasons why an editor from certain countries (e.g. China) might apply with a pseudonym however we do expect applicants to be honest about their affiliations, and bogus identities are not exactly consistent with that goal.
Maybe because DMOZ encourages lairs and keeping your motives hidden? If you make mistake of being truthful and honest about your affiliations and motives your increasing your chances of being removed - no real evidence need - Mother Theresa would probably get removed for constantly promoting charity websites with which she was affiliated. Then why do you waste your time here?
Funny coming from someone lying about who they are, and from the same person that often can be found trolling on forums rather then actually being helpful. Ya know, someone that says following the guidelines of the ODP is SHAKEY advice. Now would you like to talk about who is already IN the odp, compared to those trying to get in? With examples like you, maybe there is no wonder why people like him are trying to get accounts? Now maybe if you faced up and gave us your editor name, people could actually take your post a bit more seriously, but sadly, as it stands, you are no better then who you are talking about.
I think that there are some dmoz editors that are pretty bad and others that are excellent. I've tried already to become an editor and they rejected me. It's almost time to try again though.
If the conspiracy theorists are correct, you'll need to remove your foil hat. If they can not read your mind, they do not want you
Well I guess I'll never remove the foil hat because then the aliens will get me. Guess dmoz will have to do without me.
I've read most of your posts here at DP and the accusations from other posters about your own inaccuracies. My application to be an ODP editor is not an application to sainthood.
Read them again No one expect this. And we suspect, that you are not a saint. But there is no relation between pointing your affiliations and being a saint. And using one name - your real one - when applying to become an editor.
